When you guys changed out your RG bars for the wide glide bars, where you able to reuse the hard wire brake cable or did you have to replace the brake cable?
Also, I am assuming there is enough wire for the turn signals and stuff that I won't need to mess with the wiring to make the handlebar change.

Thanks for your help. I didn't want to get half way into the switch and get surprised.

Yes - the only mod was un-bending (straightening out) the brake tube. Love the W/G bars on my FLHR and am6'1" on a Mustang Solo if size helps.

I want to change out the stock bars on my 07 RG but I am not sure with what. I don"t want to get my hands too far above the fairing, but I want to get them up higher the they are with the stock bars. I have been looking at the wild 1 chubby 10"or 12" apes or the wild 1 575's. Without being able to demo a set it is hard to decide, I hate to spend hours changing them out and not have the feel I'm looking for. Looking for some good advise and input from anyone with similar bars on their RG or touring bike. [sm=feedback.gif]

I'd like to help but your Avatar is ditracting my concentration!! I've got the wo#575's and love em!!

2 questions on the handlebar chage.

1) my main goal is to get the grips pulled back about an inch or two so that I can press in to the rider backrest without over extending my arms. It looks like the stock wideglide bars will move my hands up about 2 or 3 inches and back about an inch. I" am 5'11" Do you guys feel the wide glide bars will do what I am looking for.

2) and this is really stupid. I have the service manual, but I can not figureoutwhere the tab on the instrument cover is so that I can get at the handle bars. the manual says to presson the slot by the ignition switch, but I can't findwhere the tab is to push on. anyhelp?

PS- you knowI am reallypretty mechanical. I guess I'm just being a ***** since I just bought this thing and have visions a cracking this stupid plastic cover.

I can help with an answer to 1)

Nope - the mini-apes, whenangled to be alignedto point downward straight through theforksto the axle, would only move the grips closer bymaybe 1" or so max. They're taller and narrower so you could lean them back at more of an angle and turn some of the extra rise into closing the distance to your shoulders but that changes grip angle too.

You should probably visit a dealer and see what I mean by looking at a Wide-Glide or (I think???) aStreet Bob. They're cheap bars though so a poor fit is less of a risk but there's nothing like sitting on a similar bike first to see what you think.
