S&S 510g cam help needed
I have a lot of tappet noise with does'nt go away when the engine warms up at idle. I read through the installation sheets over and over and adjusted the ajdjustable push rods a number of times but still have the noise. One of the sheets does'nt specify that I need the HL2T lifter kit and another sheet says that any TC88 after 1986 does require the kit.
Has anyone installed the above cams themselves and did you need the HL2T kit.
All help greatly appreciated

I spent today installing a set of S&S 510G gear drive cams in my 2006 FLHTCUI EGC TC88 every thing seemed to go ok until I started it up.

I installed the S&S .510G gear drive cams in my 1999 TC88
and did NOT need the HL2T lifter kit.
I also kept stock pushrods.
It's very important to stick to the instructions and torque values
when installing the oilpump !
Tappet noise may be caused (for a short while) by the fact
that the tappets have to fill up with oil.
Are these the instructions you are working with ?

Found this on the S&S site:
lifters may be somewhat noisy for 10-20 miles. If lifters are still noisy after 20 miles it is recommended that pushrods be adjusted one-half turn looser
Hope you can fix it

When I installed the 510g's in my '99RKC, the lifters had a slight tick for about half an hour of riding. After that all was quiet.
Hope you get it figured out.
Pulled it down again and checked any & everything I could, reassemled it and still no oil pressure. Does anyone have a breakdown on the oil pump so I can make sure all o-rings and such are where there suppose to be.

About a month ago I had the same problem after changing my cams on the 06 RK...no oil pressure.
This really sounds stupid but on the back side of the oil pump I reversed the gear and washer by accident when putting it back together. Went through everything you are doing now and was going nuts... thought I had a bad set of lifters.... Called a buddy at HD, said I was a big dummy.. come to find out it is a very common mistake.
Had the break down of the oil pump that he faxed to me but trashed after it got oil on it or I would post it here.
I know it's a b!tch to break it back down but it looks like you need to check it out.
