Besides the obivous styling, what are the primary differences between the Road Glide, Street Glide and Ultra Glide Standard? I'm looking for something with more smoothness and wind protection than my '06 FXDCI. Also, does anyone want to speculate if HD will equip the '07 touring models with 6-speed trannys and the updated Dyna motor?
Styling is really the only difference. On has a different fairing, more chrome, gauges, etc. They all share the same chassis, engine, suspension, etc. All of these are smoother at highway speeds than a bike with the TC88B engine, but idle is a little more rough. the road glide offers a bit more stability with the frame mounted fairing. All of these bikes are excellent, and it just comes down to which one "moves you". I speculate the trans will be a 6 speed soon, but I doubt that it will be an overdrive. So that means that you will go though the gears quicker, but still have the same final drive ratios. You can count on stricter EPA requirements on the engine though, which equates to smaller valves and leaner running engines. In other words, dont wait for what the Motor Company may do, but act when you are ready.
check out the HD web site and compare the models that you are interested in or better yet go to a dealer and look at them first hand. Street Glide styling really appealed to me.
Ditto. I have the same problem in make my decision if you want more chrome and style then the SG. If you want style and don't care about chrome then the RG is for you. If you want a bike to do everything the way you want it then the EG is for you. SG id the bestbanger for you buck.

I had done a 3-way comparison on HD's website but as has been mentioned, the basic specs are pretty much the same (with the exception of the SG having the lower ground clearance). I'm going to run by my dealer tomorrow and take a closer look at all three but on paper, the RG looks closest to what I want - especially given the frame mounted fairing.
On a side note, I got my official recall notice in the mail today for the '06 Dyna false neutral problem. [sm=smiley29.gif]
For me I can look at web sites all day long but it just doesnt do it for me. I must ride.. I would suggest that you go to youyr dealer and test ride all three bikes then go from there. For me the street glide rose to the top when I rode all three in a row. even better if you have the cash rent all three for a couple of hours.. You should be able to make a well informed decision based on your experence.
I went with the EG Standard because of its price, and because,I don't think I will outgrow it.The SG came out right after I bought it,but I couldn't afford it.
Don't buy a bike on someone else's opinion that is why they are called a opinion because there is no real fact in this and if you are going to buy off opinion buy off your own trust me you will make the right dicesion.
Trying to guess what the 07's will be like - is like trying to Guess where Santa starts his trip each year.. HD is Very good at keeping secrets... I agree,,, Ride, research and do your own picking..
I visited the dealer today - but unfortunately the weather was not cooperating so I didn't ask to test ride anything. However, I do think I've at least narrowed my choice down to either the Electra Standard or Road Glide. The Electra appeals to me for the simplicity - no radio, lower price and I like having the switchable spot lights. However, I don't like looking through the windshield. I also think the fork-mounted fairing wouldn't be as stable as the Road Glide's frame-mounted fairing against a strong headwind. On the other hand, I totally felt at home with the Road Glide's cockpit. It looks like it would offer more wind protection but at the same time, I would be looking over the windshield. In any event, I still need to take 'em both out on the highway before I decide for certain.
