I am really liking Street Glides but how is it that I can buy a Electra Glide Classic for only $20 more, heck you get a ton more on the bike for that $20, the riding lights, rear top case, lots of chrome (not my thing but it is extras), guards on the rear cases, air ride suspension...
Man I love the looks of the Street Glide, but the I think it would be stupid to buy one when I can get a Electra Classic and strip off the extras sell them and make it a Street Glide, come out $$ ahead.
Is there something I am missing?
Minimalist styling and less chrome. Some folks like that.
They do have different wheels on the SG too. I've never warmed up to them either.. but they are different that the EGC.
Take the tourpak off, and put on a shorty aftermarket windshield and a low profile seat. (You can buy a used SG seat off eBay that some SG 2 up rider took off to upgrade to a more comfortable 2-up seat and will fit right on for low money.)
The SG is the cool bike of the last couple years. When they first came out guys wentape over them, I think now the noise has quieted down. They're great looking rides and once they get the ride bling and performance features on them then they are awesome.. but the same can be said for the EGC, UC and event the Standard for that matter.
I wonder why all of the other Street Glide owners didn't have this epiphany before they threw their money away!!
A guy we ride with tried making his EGC look like a street glide, looks like ****.Frontfender with all that crap on it, azz up in the air, grey motoretc etc. Guys jab him all the timeabout his Fake Glide.
If you want the look of the SG, then buy the SG.
My two cents.
..."Fake-Glide????"...get a clue dude...Electra-Glide been around a lot longer than the "flavor-of-the-month' "Street-Glide"[sm=bustedsign.gif]...just cause you ride with some "poser' who don't appreciate his ride doesn't call for bashin a Harley Legend...
The street glide has all the chrome on it. 2 weeks ago I looked at the street glide, sat on it. Sat on the Electra Glide Standard next to it. Sat back on the street glide, looked that the running lights were not on the street glide. Had 2 buddies say go with the standard. You can do a lot with 3000 difference. And with the 2 up riding yer doing you will like the EGS better.
Tomorrow will be 2 weeks and I've got 1500 miles on the FLHT.
Funny, go on Ebay and price the same exact components, if its for a street glide it will go for twice as much as the "same" componentfor a king or road glide. I'm cleaning the *** end of my EGS using Road King fender and Street Glide Filler. I hate those stupid square fender lights so they're coming off! I had all the chrome and bling on the bags and got tired of it, that all came off as well. Custom paint is coming soon and I'm not covering it all up.
The EG standard/classic isnt my cup of tea. Dont get me wrong, they arenice bikes for sure but I didnt even consider it after I saw the SG.A motorcycle isnt exactly the most practical purchase (particularly a Harley), more of an emotional purchase for most I think. The EG Standard/Classic just doesn't excite many of us SG owners, that why we bought the Street Glide.
The reason they cost more is that people are willing to pay more for them...marketing 101.
I can tell you from experience I owned a UC and now I own a SG for me I do like the sportyness of the SG but the main reason I sold the UC was the bike got heavy and tiresome for the type of riding I do. I'm not sure but the weight is'nt that much more on paper for the UC but drive in some heavy traffic and you will know what I mean.I could have stripped it down but like everyone said its still a UC.
Hey Kart11...you are so right. I have the detachable king tour pak and I bet it weighs 25+ lbs. I can sure notice a difference when I take it off, having that weight up high makes the bike way less fun to ride.
I wonder why all of the other Street Glide owners didn't have this epiphany before they threw their money away!!

Listen up @sshat, it is apparentsentence structureis notone your strongest attributes. Maybe you should read the post again.Better yet,I'll clear it up for you. I didn't say this guy does not appreciate his ride, he does.Calling this guy a poser is not only unfair, it iscompletely unfounded. I said "guys jab him all the time about his Fake StreetGlide" meaning that there are a select few who bust ***** with him about it.Guess what, they have Street Glides. My apologies for omitting one word. Let's get a clue, no matter how youwant to try to wrap it, unless you dump tons of money into undressing your dresser, it will always look like a EGC.
My intention wasn't to bash your beloved legend. But, I don't necessarily care what what you think. It's a piece of metalwith chrome, nota frickinggod.
