The chill factor @60mph is good for about a 20 degree drop , so watch out for hypothermia, been there .. not fun.

I did 2 x 300 mile trips on my WG3 where the temps starting out were 29 and got up to a high of 47. .. not pleasent with no windshield , or any heat. Had to stop about every hour to keep from getting frostbitten.

That prompted me to get a bagger with decent protection to enjoy riding year round.

Since I got my FLHX with the heated grips and heated Corbin, I close the "dragon wings " and really have no issues. I can ride comfortably in the 40's , haven't resorted to the crash bar covers yet. If you don't have heated grips/seat , get some Gerbings or equivalent .
A good pair of ski zip over pants /bibs and jacket can really help . I've used my Columbia ski gear on my WG3 and it made it tolerable.

Rode to workat 8 degrees, 40 miles. Head of our safety department threatened to have me drug tested. Routinely ride in the low 20's and high teens. No heated gear, I use burton snowboard gloves they seem to work better than any other gloves I've tried. Just hate to have to put the bike away.

Don't use any kind of heated gear just layers and good gloves. The key is keeping the wind out and trapping air inside. Forget about HD's POS heated grips, save your money.

Will ride until the roads are slick with that frosty stuff.

I guess I need to go buy some thermals today.
It's pretty hard to beat a good Union Suit. Carhartt makes a great one. I pick up a new one every year, getting several years out of them practically living in them through the winter months. The red cuffs poking out my shirt sleeves is great comic relief.

Don't forget to pick up a few pairs of their wool socks while you're there. Nothing keeps your feet warmer in the winter and cooler in the summer.
Ha! My wife won't let me wear my Carharttson the scoot. Say's I look like a dork. I say, who cares.............I'm warm.
Maybe if they were black huh?

Gerbings, Gerbings.....bets investment I've made....
But if heated gear is not for you and you're looking for a suit that works, try First Gear Thermo Suit....warm and waterproof......
new enough had them on sale.....
Another vote for Gerbings. I have the jacket, gloves, pants and socks.. with a full face helmet I can do a 300 mile ride in sub 30'F weather and be perfectly comfortable. Toasty.

It adds at least 45 days of riding (in total comfort) to the front and back end of riding season. That's 90 days of extra riding. The whole outfit costs me $500 back in 2001.. so I've had it all since then.. so split that costs up over a decade. It's not that expensive.

It's not for everyone, but nothing beats being out riding on a cold clear New England day with bright sun and clear skys and 30'F temps!

I'm lucky the wife stays home and I'm out of her hair and maybe she's got a turkey in the oven, or some nice beef stew, or some home made spaghetti with sauce from our summer garden.

No need to be cold anymore and with the Gerbings, you don't even need to bulk up. I find the textitle pants or leather pants are much warmer than chaps. I've got a lightweight Tourmaster jacket that I took the liner out of and use the Gerbing jacket liner instead.

My thermals keep everything else fine, but them fingers don't feel so good when its in the low 30's and below. Some thin liner gloves inside my heavier gloves help. I might try my ski gloves on the next cold weather trip (maybe even to work). If that doesn't work, I better check out some heated gloves. The 3/4 and full face helmets sure keep the head warmer.

Took a 2 hour ride home the other night. I think I found that high 30's, low 40's is my limit. I saw 41 on a bank therm. in a town I went through, I am sure that it was in the high 30's out in the country. I needed better gloves and warmer chaps and some inner thigh/nether regionwarmers anda defroster for the full face shield and warmer socks and.....

I had been wondering what my limit would be with the Ultra, I think I found it. It almost took the fun out of riding. I did see two other bikes (both E-glides) in the 100 mile trip, but more than anything I was happy to get home and warm up.
Let me guess... open or 1/2 helmet, leather jacket, chaps, fingerless cruiser gloves?

Get the right gear. *Proper* riding gear can extend your season to year'round (excepting snow & ice, of course). You can spend less on proper gear and include electric gloves and vest for less than 1/4 of the chrome mods most people do to their bikes.

I second this. I am getting ready to order Gerbing Heated jacket and gloves. I will also be ordering a Aerostich riding suit. I see it that since I have so much invested in the machine, I want to ride it as much as possible.
