I just wanted to let everyone know there are actually Great Dealers out there that really do go above and beyond to satisfy their customers. I am located in Ohio about 2 hours away from Signature HD in Toledo. I actually pass 5 dealers on my way to them. I have known the owner for 25 years from when he was a Salesman at another Stealership. When I was looking to get a new bike several months ago I again called them to see what we could work out not surprising again the deal was better than anything I could find out my back door, but that was just the beginning. The customer service at this dealership is off the charts.............From Tim their Chrome Specialist to Mick and Aaron in Service they were able to conquer the daunting task of dealing with a true pain in the *** who thinks he knows everything (ME). Nevertheless they got it done and WOW the results are excellent! I have done most of my work with them via the phone but what is so impressive is the few times when I do need to make the drive up there they all know me by name the minute I walk through the door. We always hear all the negatives just thought I'd say something nice for a change.............................
I think the bad dealerships get so much attention (and they deserve it), that too often we tend to think most or all of them are bad. Luckily my "good one" is only 4 miles from my house. As with you, everyone at the dealership knows my name and gives me a friendly greating when I walk in. And one of the things I really like is that I can call call up Troy, the chrome specialist and order something over the phone then pay for it when I pick it up....don't have to make a special trip those whole 4 miles just to pay before they place the order.

That is the type of relationship that keeps people coming back if its 4 miles or 400...........................

A lucky man for sure. Two of thedealers I went into, I was the invizible man. Their loss.
I bet most folks have good relations with good dealers. It only takes one surly, indifferent employee to sour you on the whole thing. Living in a smaller town (Salem, Oregon) you see many of the same folks fairly often. The dealership here has always treated me pretty well and all others I've talked to. Sure they were more than happy to take as much money as they could when I buy a bike, I feel they've treated me right. They've been honest. Hell, they've even talked me out of buying some things. I've bought some things and it ended up not working out and they take it back without batting an eye. When they give me a time when something is going to be done, it is on time or early. In the middle of last summer when they were incredibly busy and bikes were lined up for work, I noticed my rear tire was in bad shape and came in to see about getting a new tire. The service writer said it would be about a week before they could get me in. So, I said OK I guess I won't go on that run to the coast this weekend. The Service Manager heard me and wanted to take a look at the tire. He took one look and said "I can't let you leave with a tire like that. Can you wait while I get one on?" They fit me in and changed it on the spot. When I order something, they talk to me about it to make sure I'm getting the right thing. The only problem I've had is about pipes. When I talked to four different people, I got four different opinions. Not like here on the forum. Ha! Every job they've done has been meticulous. They are a class act.
St. Croix H-D in New Richmond WI, is a great dealer, they also go out of their way to help their customers, and they don't look down on you like the other dealer(s) close to me (I can't stand walking in the dealer and they think you should feel privlaged you got to walk threw their door). Remember dealers If it wasn't for customers you wouldn't be there.
Northern Illinois here (Sycamore). I just picked up my '05 Ultra in April... put on 3000 miles to bring her up to about 12,500 total.
I want 2 new tires, all the fluids changed, and the 10K service before the snow starts to fly. I sent out e-mails from local dealer website "contact us" pages just looking for a ballpark price. I need to get in bed with a dealer, so I figured I'd see which one was the most responsive... not the least expensive.I did this weeks ago... and have not received a single replyfrom a single oneof them yet. I guess they must be too busy to service theirfuture customer base. I'll keep them all in mind when I start looking into the '08 or '09 trade up. So far... no EXCELLENT Dealers inNorthern Illinois, but I'll keep looking.
Billings is a small town. One guy owns the three Beartooth Harley-Davidson stores in the area. Top notch, first class operation. Lucky me after reading some of the horror stories here.
In the Denver metro area I go to Sun Harley Davidson. I pass another dealership to get there but I have my reasons. When I bought my first bike at the "other dealer" I was impressed with the sales person. She moved to Sun HD later and sent me card. I started going to the new dealership for everything they were great. Here is where they went over the top. I started looking for a Road King low miles. I spoke with my sales person and she did not have what I was looking for in stock. She actually helped me deal with the "other dealership" and I mean deal with in every sense of the words, to get my bike even though she would not receive any commision. I hooked her up with enough gift certificated to take her family out for an evening on me.
The service department at Sun HD is great too. I had a cracked exhaust and they walked me through the process of fixing it myself to save me some bucks. Before I left on a 3k trip in June they got me in at the last moment (poor planning on my part) gave the bike a once over and put a new tire on it for me. These guys really know how to keep a customer happy.
In July I had flat tire in my garage, I filled up the tire and headed down to the " other dealership" I was expecting to wait weeks but they had empty lifts. I was in shock, how can a dealership have empty lifts in the prime of riding season, I guess I am not the only one riding by them on my way to somewhere else. Customer service really does matter. I will continue to go the extra distance to Sun HD.
Recently I have found a great independent for my service but that is a whole different story on the different indepents I have been to.
