Torrington Bearings
I've got a little over 32,000 miles on the bike. Really runs well, and the oil filter I opened up last month had no yellow flakes inside. About six months ago I inspected my outer chain tensioner and it look like it had maybe 5% to 10% wear. Don't know what the inner looked like. Anyway, I get the feeling that the bike's guts are in pretty good shape, but still want to replace the cams to get rid of the tensioners.
I'll take a look at the link you sent. I've reviewed the manual and the binder clip method to hold the lifters in place in case I don't replace them.
Dawg, isn't it possible to push the bearings too far into the casing? Maybe I don't know what I'm looking at, but looks like yours are closed off on the inside. Great pic, BTW.
The big thing to remember is this, you are not pounding a nail into a peice of oak............you are TAPPING the bearing into place, and you don't want to hit it too hard.
Another tip is this...............put the bearings in the freeze for a while before installing them. This will shrink the bearing a bit and allow for an easier install.
With the blind-spot puller you have to be very careful as well, make sure to use the right size adapter and don't pull too hard. If the puller catches the lip on the backside of the case, and you are pulling very hard, you can crack the engine case and that makes for a very bad day.
It's not a race to put the motor together.............take your time and do things right..............it's not very hard to do.
Steve
