Installed HD Prem oil cooler. Looks and fits great. No interferance what so ever. 07 RKC.
Your engine will thank you as next Summer rolls around. You may not see the t'stat even open in this cooler weather, however, if you ride in winter.
By no means and I a genius or anything and I haven't been into a motorcycle motor yet, but where is there a thermostat on a air cool'd motor???? What is it opening?

Jeff
Actually, Jeff, its been a while since I read the directions on installing mine but I think the thermostat is in the adaptor you install for the cooler itself. I may have that wrong but seems like thats what I remember. It can't do anything but help the overheating situation, even if its sitting still it should cool it some.

P.S. Not to take away from the other bikes, but I voted for yours.

I don't think so based on the pictures that I am looking at in this post, and based on the oil coolers that I have installed on cars in a previous life. Most oil and tranny coolers are just radiators that fluid runs through the cooling effect is caused by 1 more fluid and 2 air flowing through the radiator which the oil is being redirected through.

Again haven't installed one of these on a HD, so I may be wrong, but I can't image why they would havea t'stat????

Yeah, you could be right. I'm not at my shop righ now, but I'm gonna check when I get home. But I think I remember reading something about a thermostat on the thing. Probably helps get the motor up to operating temp faster. Same as on a auto motor. Just replaced the one on my shop truck, it was stuck open and took forever to heat up and then it wouldn't get to proper temp until I replaced it.

it says a thermostat activates at 185 degrees.

Premium Oil Cooler Kit

This cooler was designed specifically for Harley-Davidson® to out-perform all other coolers in the industry. This cooler features a unique "Turbulator" system that evenly distributes oil across the cooling chambers. The air fins are designed to efficiently dissipate heat. This popular Touring oil cooler has been re-designed to simplify installation and enhance performance. The larger heat exchanger provides additional cooling efficiency. Kit features an adapter plate with integrated thermostat that allows oil lines to connect to the oil filter bracket. The thermostat activates at 185°F (85°C). Kit comes complete with mounting hardware and precut oil lines. Kit includes Chrome Oil Cooler Cover.

Jeeze, thanks quackhead. I was beginning to think I dreamed reading about that somewhere. I'm the type that can read a novel and not remember s*** about what was in it, but give me a engine service manual on something and I retain most of it or at least where to look it up again.
