Installed mine over the summer, definitely helped lower oil temp. Cooler with pipes, FM, and AC, took care of all heat issues.
Filter comes off easy, but yea it is close. I usually fold a long piece off tin foil into a 1/2 pipe and slide under filter prior to removal to minimize mess and drain any spillage intocatch pan. Filter socket and long entension works fine to get off.

That is why I use the K&N filter with a nut on the end. Never go back to anything else.
