I was just about to order a set of Tru-Duals along with a Power Com, and a K/N a/c, and got to reading a couple of posts that said, performace on the low end would likely be the same or even drop. My goal is to get the engine on my '06 EGC to run smoother at all temps, and if I got some ponies, that would just be a bonus. I want a bit more sound too. Currently I am running the SE slip-ons. I know this subject gets beat to death, but I want to make sure I purchase the right stuff, and not get surprised.
Yeah, me too......And I also know how badly the bottom end will suffer with tru duals.....And I simply don't want the look of a 2 into 1
Me n you got two choices, we either go with the right slipons for a little boost or we select FuelMoto's newest offering for a real surge.
Give it a month and do some more reading before you buy.....Jamie at FuelMotoUSA.com has developed a really trick package that offers 96" stock touring bikes real good torque at all RPMS.....He too worried that tru duals robbed us of torque on the street, so he developed some new baffle designs that not only restore low end torque, but really boost it over most of the power curve.
Get in contact with Jamie at fuelmoto.....He will soon sell you a package of just Rush slipon's and the PCIII and 3909 K & N that will do all you want lots cheaper than tru duals.....And he will also toss in a custom map for free.
If you're looking for a smooth running bike with a little added grunt why spend the money on true duals if you don't have to? Find any brand of slip-on mufflers you like, add the power commander and K&N intake...unless you really want to get rid of the cross-over pipe that's all you need. The new setup fuel-moto is doing is for the 96 ci engine, I believe yours is still an 88, isn't it? Everything is readily available from fuel-moto right now and once you identify the mufflers you're going to put on they will pre-load the appropriate map into the Power Commander for you.
I did the slip-ons, Screamin Eagle intake, and Screamin Eagle race tuner on my 08 Ultra and am more than satisfied with what it did to the bike. Us 08 owners have fewer options right now, but you should be able to get whatever you want for the 06.
I think most guys on these forums should deal with Jamie at fuel moto,he is the only guy I know that spends time with every customer to make them happy. Hell I work at a dealer and I deal with him!
The true duals show a dip around 2500 during a dyno run.The bike doesnt fall on its face. Most go this route mainly for the sound, dont like the one pipe look on a tourer. The stock headers are a combination of both, dual look but most exhaust coming from r/h pipe. Many here have the true duals and dynoing bike will help this dip if tuner takes the time. Two into one still will make the best numbers if all is equal.
Don't rule out the latest Bub 7 system. They offer a true dual (they say "duel") whit a true crossover. The best of both worlds. Sound and no bottom end loss. Once I get some money coming in again (and caught back up) they're going to be on their way to my place. (unless reports start coming in that they didn't do a good job with them, that is)
I'd go with whatever you like the look and sound of. I've got TD's and really like them. Maybe the bike isn't optimized for torque and horsepower, but I can't tell it and I like my ride. After all, why are you riding to begin with, so you can say you're riding a hot bike, or because you like to ride (enjoy the feel, sound, surroundings, etc.)? I'm sure not knocking anyone who modifies his ride for more torque and/or hp, heck I might do it myself someday. I'm just saying do whatever pleases you -- it's your ride and you're the one who has to be satisfied with it. Whatever you do, the K&N's a great filter and Power Commander should take care of your EFI in good fashion.
You'll be modifying your bike as long asyou own it, so I sure wouldn't stress out about doing everything just right from the start. Enjoy.
