Advice on making a classic'stail look good with the tour pack removed?
How ugly is the antenna mount and what did you do with your license plate? Pictures?I'm thinking of relocating my plate under the tail light, but should I leave it up top to distract from the antenna mount? Seems if I leave it up top I shouldn't lay it back because the antenna is vertical.
I just installed a quick detach kit this weekend. Comes with everything needed including the license plate bracket. Nice chrome piece. Put on the Turn-riding-brake light kit which changes the lenses out to Red. No pics but I think it looks pretty good. The antenna mount is also a nice thick chrome piece.
IMO an external antenna is never attractive regardless of where it's mounted. I use a powered antenna inside the fairing; works well for me.
As for the license plate, in '05 I had mine in a chrome frame attached to the left rear saddlebag guard rails. Here's a pic:
In early '06 I installed the Street Glide rear fender/facia/LED and the SG license plate relocation/bullet turn signal kit that HD sells:
Softbrake.com and J&P Cycle sell a bracket that relocates the plate below the tail light that is much less expensive than the HD kit; and, J&P sells a tail light lens with the clear lens on the bottom for lighting the plate.
One mod I have not seen is to use the filler strips from an '07 SE Road King that are identical to the SG filler strips (between the fender and saddlebags) but without the lower portion for the LED light. Bet they'd look good on the rear of a Classic or Ultra color-matched.
