Default Battery storage drain

Hi folks,

My first message in here. Got a 2007 RK Custom which I have not really ridden yet as it is instorage for the winter. However when I was going to start it the other day, the battery had drained enough not to for me to be able to start. So now it is to tear it apart and recharge the battery.

But my question is, in your experience, how long does it take to drain the battery in storage if you leave it in the bike?

And how often do you have to start the bike and how long do you leave it running to retain enough charge for the next start over the winter months?

I dont really want to remove the battery over the wintermonths because having to start the bike regularly and run it is a great excuse for me to fiddle around with the bike on a regular basis, dreaming of summer months to come.[sm=Awwww.gif]

If you aren't going to ride it, winterize it properly and either pull the battery, charge it, and keep it in a warm place or put a battery tender on it. The worst thing you can do to an engine is start it, let it run a bit and shut it off. This would go two times for an engine that hasn't been broken in yet.

1. Take the battery out of the bike and store it indoors with a battery tender.
2. Dont start the bike unless ur going to ride it.

Im doing this for 36 years now.. IT WORKS !
Good Luck !

Agree. Use a battery tender and don't start her. If the bike is new the fluids are as well. When getting a tender tryto get the real "battery tender" and not some cheap knock off.

Before I got a battery tender I would have to pull the maxi-fuse on the bike so that the security system wouldn't drain the battery. I finally bit the bullet and spent $20 on a battery tender jr. Best investment yet, I highly recommend you get one.

I agree! In cold weather it takes the bike up to an hour to get up to temp enough to burn off all of the condensation created by starting it. You can either take the battery out or add a battery charge harness to it and just plug it in while still in the bike. This is how I do our bikes.

Now comes the long wait until spring and riding weather again. Man I need to move to where it is 70 deg. and sunny everyday!

Ride Safe,

Mike
