I would never use a cheap torque wrench, I think you would be safer going by feel. If you get one get a good one. Most sears don't fit in the quality catagory all tho some of thier $250 ones are good. Snap-On and Armstrong are very nice quality. I have read to many horror stories of people who striped out or broke bolts because thier cheap trq wrench did not click. If you are going to get a cheap one get the dial kind not the click kind.

I don't think I would do an engine rebuild with a HF unit, but mine are fine for most everything I have done.

I will check them again against the calibrated expensive model now that I have used them for a while.

I'll post the results.

My torque wrench is built-in to my wrist. All I do is use the biggest wrench I can grab; tighten down 'till it snaps, then back it off just a 1/4 of a turn. It's always worked for me. Oh...add some red thread locker first [X(]

My dad taught me how to torque down a bolt.

When you bust a blood vessel in one or both of your eyes, its tight enough.

I used this method before the torque wrench and snapped a few bolts.

Torque wrench workes better.

And if you would like some pricing on quality tools email me.All tools can bedirect shipped by UPS. If you want to know how much for a tool, I will give you my best price to all HD bros always have always will. I am not open to who has the best price. It will not be to Harbor F., Sears, JC Penny...ect. Not being critical of any tools or what a person wants to buy........just saying

I have the Harbor Frieght version.

We checked my HF wrenchagainst a really expensive recently calibrated unit and guess what?

It was right on at every point we checked.

That applied to the 1/4" in/lb, 3/8" ft/lb, & 1/2" ft/lb HF models that I picked up the same day.
Same here with my HF in/lb and ft/lb clicker wrenches. The ft/lb was right on except for one setting, and it was 1 lb. off. The in/lb was right on the money on all checks.
FWIW, I had a $300 Snap-On that wasn't even close to that, and neither is my old 36-year-old Torsen (torsion arm type).
