Default Harman/Karmon AUX Jack Question

Does anyone happen to know if the faceplate jack accepts a three-sectioned plug (mic and speaker like from a cel phone) or is it simply a two-section stereo plug.

In other words, can you run a cell phone thru AUX and use the HD headset?

I imagine it's only 2 but not sure since I have the older stereo. Plug it in and try it is all I can tell you!

well, you can hook your GPS to the aux jack and hear it through your headsets, in mono though....don't know about cell phone, but I would guess so...check out electrical connection or Ed sets, they both have a headset to 3.5mm plug, allows you to hear stereo with small earbuds..

I can plug my MP-3 plqyer into it and hear thru the headsets, so if you have the right plug 3.5 mm I'm sure you can hear, however I don't think you can talk thru headset to your phone...Bldr

If I am not mistaken I believe the cell phone plug is slightly smaller.

My cell phone has a built-in GPS reciever. I used a standard 3.5mm patch cord to connect to the AUX port and I can hear my GPS instructions over the stereo just fine.I also noticed that I can hear my calls on the phone as well (just can't talk). All HD/HK would have had to do to make *any* voice-activated cell phone part of the comms system is allow a mic-in feed at the AUX port.

*I know a herd of riders will chime in that nobody should be talking while riding, but I use the CB all the time on trips and I'm still alive.....a hands-free cell call wouldn't kill me either

In any event, it's a pity that HD audio design team are so far behind the times. I don't see why I should buy a HD Bluetooth module for $500....so I can wirelessly attach my cellphone....to a system that uses a wired boom mic on my helmet. The entire system should be wireless, IMO. Or at least for $.20 they could have soldered in a mic wire on the AUX port.

At least I can hear my GPS.

Don't expect HD to anything to make things easy or cheaper for owners. Take a look at this xm reciever that is offered for about every brand of radio that makes it easy to get xm on a xm ready radio like the HK. Now the price is $109, the same thing from HD is $500. Hopefully they will release one soon.

Hey Trock--Its alot worse than $500 my friend! The UNIT is $500. Then, unless you have an Ultra, you need to buy the Ultra Overlay harness ($125) to plug it in the *** end of the radio. Then, the dealer hauls out his "Digital Technician" and tells the radio that an XM module is there (usually $75)--then there is the labor.

At least with the after market ones you dont need to have a degree in rocket science to make the XM work!
