Looking for some advice. Figure this would be the site! Until May of this year hadn't ridden in over 25 years. I have alot of shoulder problems & have a friendthat ownsa Honda dealership sobought a vtx1300 to get used to riding again. This summer I rented an 07 ultra for 3 days & put over 1200 miles on it. No shoulder or back problems the whole time. Harley dealers in myareawere a pain to deal with (think they have the only bike out there) so ended up buying a Goldwing (nice to have a friend). After riding Goldwing, have alot of pain in shoulders & upper back after 200 miles. After nearly 14000 miles, the pain still hasn't gone away! So,I'm thinking aboutbuying a used Ultra or maybe a new one (if I can find a decent dealer). I know they are 2 different bikes (Ultra & Goldwing) but having never owned a Harley, what are the pluses & minuses ofan Ultra.
1. 06 or older? Or 07, 08?
2. Can the heat from crossover pipe be corrected?
3. Wife's legs hit the chrome bars that surround the bags. Can floorboards be adjusted or can bars be removed?
4. Reliability?
I have the same problems and I have a 01 EGC with a stock seat and backrest and no problems with with my back or shoulder. I ride my bike everday to and from work as long as it not raining.
HD has a slanted saddlebag bar or you can eliminate it altogether. It is in the parts catalogue. I think all you have to do is look at an Ultra, sit on it and take a demo ride. Then you will know. There just isnt anything like ie. If I had a secondor third or fourth bike they would all be Ultras. Of course I am a bit partial. You did not say where you were from. I work in sales at HD of Montgomery,al. and we are a good dealership earning the silver bar and shield for 5 years running. Less than 50 dealers in the country receive it annually out of 638 dealers. So if you want an Ultra I HAVE ABOUT 6 IN STOCK INCLUDING A SCREAMING EAGLE ULTRA.Ialso have one used pearl white 05 Ultra with only 8500 miles. Feel free to give me a call at 334 277-2540. ASK FOR MACK

What he said.
I can only remember heat from the crossover being a problem twice in the past 1 1/2 years. Both times were on really hot days when I was stuck in a bad traffic jam for a long time. Wasn't anything I couldn't put up with though.
Looks like you are in Ohio. I would think there would be a dealer or two in your area facing slower sales because of the shorter riding season looking to deal around January or February.
I visited Dayton HD two years ago while on a trip. They seemed like really good people. They were most hospitable to a itinerant rider. Might check 'em out.
Your being smartand comming oboard DH forum before you purchased thebike.
Would that I had known of the forum. Not that I would have bought a different model...but YOUR being smart
