I originally posted this in the ignition section but had no response. Maybe more help from the bagger community. I have been reading about this unit and it sounds like it may be a big help for my carbed RK. Just to help her use what she is already getting a little more efficiently. Any thoughts?
Do you have any engine up grades?
If not I don't think it will do much for you.
This is what I know. My dad has an 02 carbed RK and I have an 04 carbed RK, my dad's 02 has only a S&S 510G cams and S&S super E carb. last Summer we installed Vance & Hines true duals with his Thunderheader slip-ons. Then we went to the bike shop that did the cams and carb work a few years back. The guy that owns the shop is one of the best dyno guy's around my area, and he is very onest and he recomended this ignition so my dad said lets go ahead and put it on. So he did a couple runs with stock ignition before doing several runs with the crane Hi-4, and then he stoped and put the stock one back on and ran a few more and dialed it in and said (the stock set up is not much different then the crane HI-4,) then he said ( I wouldn't even use it unless you go to Big bore with head work, becuse then you have to, you wouldn't have a choice, but if he want's it he would sell it to him.) My dad ended up saving $300.00. It's nice to have a Cycle shop like that around with someone that is truthfull and not out to screw everyone over that walks in the door. This is the guy that did all the engine up grades to my Bike. At the time the Crane Hi-4 was not avalable for the 04 modles so I went with the Daytona Twin Tec ignition. It seems to work pretty good for me.
My RK has the stage 1 kit with SE slip ons. pretty stock. i don't think this is the same ignition. as i understand it the HI4 TC provides multi spark capability at low RPM and adjustable spark for the individual cylinders. This is supposed to make the fuel burn more efficiently and the offset makes the cylinders work together better in the powerband. It also lets you set the rev limiter higher which I don't really care about. I don't want to race anybody.
Thanks for the info.
