EGC shuts down.
I havea 01 EGC with 49000 miles. This has happined appx 7 timesso let me know what you guys think. While on the road after being on the road for at least 30min the bike shut off in the middle of freeway traffic. No warning just dies. When it dies it seem like i remember the gages moving a little bit. But all I have to do is pull the clutch in turn the switch off turn switch on and hit the start button and the bike fires back up and runs just fine. Sometime I have to get to the side of road if traffic is to heavy. It dosent do it everday may only once a week but once is too much. Any ideas or just take it to the shop and have them run a code ck on the machine. Thanks for the help.
I would take it to the dealer and have them check the ECM on the MOCO computer. Sometimes hard faults are stored, but will not come up on the bikes self diagnostics system as a "code number". It may be traceable on the computer and it may not, but its worth a shot.
bad thing is that a intermittent electrical fault can be a real PITA to locate, and could soak up a good amount of hourly rated time.

Just to throw my 2 cents in.........a penny at a time.
1) Faulty main circuit breaker...these have now been replaced on later bikes with OEM maxi-fuses...I think there was a recall on the circuit breakers some years ago..but dont know if 01 was the year. Turn the ignition off...it cools for a second and then resets.
2) "Bank Angle Sensor" the emergency shut down unit for EFI bikes when it falls over. It could be malfunctioning.....and the way to reset them is turn the ignition off for a few seconds and then back on.
Neither of these will set a code.

another item to check is the speed sensor, Error codes 501 501 and 505 should be locked into your computer. If your speedo needle moves a bit, your turn signals will not cancel and the bike dies every blue moon, suspect your VSS(speed sensor).
Thanks guys for the great info. I dont know how to ck for codes on my bike, but would love know where those sensors are located and if they are not very expensive I would just replace them. It didnt happin today but its like it has its own mind and scares the crap out of me when it shuts down. I always make sure I have a sholder close till I get this thing fixed.
