You obviously don't Chuck, the issue here is NOT giving, I pay for everything I get from HD, trust me Every F==cking thing. The MoCo WILL NOT let you forget this, EVER!!
What would have been good customer svc and relations would have been to state exactly what's include from the get go, not to have the customer find "hidden" issues once you've paid and come to the table expecting no surprises.
You, feels like..."you want what?, you expect what? ...pay up sucka!!"
Oh, and don't forget those wonderful words they say to you once you plunk down your 18K~20K ..."welcome to the family" ....so, what am I the family dog?
All the extra crap they try to sell you when you are buying your bike are just big profit items for the dealers and nothing else. It used to be you could just go in and haggle about the price forthe vehicle and now you have to listen to all the bullshit about extended warranties, tire and wheel warranties and prepaid service. Nothing but profit for the dealers. I use only one word when it's time to close and that's NO to all their BS add ons.

I do all my own service work except the 1000 mile service they threw in on the deal. I know whatthe bike comes with and I guess if I bought a service plan I would expect what ever they service (change)would be what's in or on the bike when purchased. I wouldn't expect upgraded fluids, upgraded filters, upgraded plugs or whatever, not from any company, let alone HD.
I still say good old fresh oil is all ya need anyway. Tell themto keep their syns.. If they get enough of that bs sitting on the shelves, they'll start throwing it in.
I wouldn'tburn bridges over it, ya may need them for a bigger issue down the road.
Good luck.
My dealer and I reached an amicable agreement on the service for the first 10k miles. That includes 1k, 2.5k, 5k, 7.5k and 10k intervals. The 2.5k and 7.5k are oil changes but not filters. The service includes Syn3 oil. After the package is done, I will do my own maintenance and use Royal Purple Max-Cycle 20w-50. I canget it for $6.13 a quart if I buy it buy the 12 pack. Since I have three bikes it is cool.
BTW, Harley maintenance is a lot easier to do than the other manufacturers. That's why I ride an Ultra now instead of a Wing or a Royal Star. Buy the manuals - if they ever get out - and get intimate with what's between your legs!

maybe its just me, but i would never do an oil change without changing the filter. just seems counterproductive. but i guess it really doesn't matter in your case since the mfr recommended interval is 5k miles and your changing it at half that....
I also purchased a service plan ... and for every service I load up my saddlebags with Mobil 1 (VTwin) ... yeah, it does cost extra, but I think it is worth it ... would be 'nice' if they gave you a credit on the regular oil that you are not getting ...
Saying that, I love the service plan ... cost a lot, but it last for 3 years, covers all service and wear and tear items like tires and brakes. Pickup & delivery included and a VIP card that getsyou 10% off all products (note: our store has gone to the point system, so now I get points and the 10% off). Since I ride about 25k miles every year, it is well worth the up front cost.
I purchased the service plan with my 08 Ultra when I got it in October, clearly written into the agreement was my choice between regular HD 20-50 or Syn3....at no extra cost. Had Syn3 put in at the 1k service, and will use it until the plan runs out (10k), then will likely start doing my own service and switch to Mobil-1 V-twin. My plan also includes free pickup and delivery, but I only live 4 miles from the shop, so I prefer to drop it off myself.
the hd dealer here does not recommend using syn3 in the primary. something about causing problems with the stator... they recommend the good ol formula + in there.
(matters not to me, i use redline and do my own services, just throwing that info out for gp)
