I got my '07 EGC in September '06 and the drive train is still stock. Mine ran good right out of the box so I didn't see a need for mods. The stock cans are not loud but suit us just fine for two up touring. The pipes were a little more loud than earlier stock Harleys (that HAD to be changed) and are getting more rumblely with some miles on them.
I did change to synthetic oil early on because it performs better than fossil oil under hot conditions but I have no concerns about reliability or longevity of the stock setup.
Stock bikesare way underated. You get a well engineered system that hasn't been fooled with or stressed in any manner. Nothing is modified or buggered up, parts are where they should be, and well meaning folks are kept away from your bike. Enjoy it like it is. (Although I did fool with pipes, carb, and other stuff on my bike...heh, heh).
I also have a 2007 Ultra, I don't like loud pipes, and it doesn't add comfort or visibility, I don't need it. That said, after reading the board for several months and riding several thousand miles pretty stock, I added a road zeppelin seat, then came the suppertrapp SE slip-ons, A/C and Power Commander. It's a little louder, but the set of the pants increass inHP and TQ are great. I bought this bike with the idea, if I needed more power, I'd get a V-rod; but this little boost in power is just what the Doctor ordered.
Buying stuff is part of the motorcycling experence. Ride it, Wash it and Wrench it.
Thanks for all the positive reply's. When I say stock, that is just concerning the engine and pipes. Now for the rest of the bike I am and will continue adding plenty of chrome and stuff to make it my own ride.
Ive left my 06 stock. I like the sound of louder pipes but whenI go out 2 up for the day it would get annoying on my Fatboy. I decided that after spending a lot on chrome on the fatboy that Im only adding functional stuff to the bagger. So far Im happier than I ever was with any of my other bikes which werent baggers. Ride it how ya like it!!
