Deer Whistles
Does anybody know if the deer whistles work? I ride to work on a 2-lane hiway and the woods on both sides of the hiway are very thick. I leave home before dark and I see a lot of deer. I've had deer jump out in front of me, but, knock on wood, I've been able to miss them. It feels like it's almost a matter of time, though,so I thought I'd try these things.

I have always had them, never hit a deer. Do They work?, I have really serious doubts! Kinda like a good luck charm. A bell probably works better. RideSLOW with reallyGOOD LIGHTSI think would be best for ya.

What I have read states that deer are afraid of unfamiliar noises. The first deer whistles were probably effective...but after the deer got used to hearing them, they became ineffective. Sames goes for traffic noise...deer overcome their fear over time and wander closer to traffic. It's not unusual to see them right beside the interstate travel lanes in Virginia.
Others have stated that the deer whistles become ineffective when they get clogged up with dead bugs....which means within a few days.
The short answer is that deer whistles don't work. Don't waste your money!
