Wondering if you guys can help me out ? I have an 01 E-Glide Classic and the kids want to get me the kit for Christmas. I can't seem to find the one for my year bikeon the HD site. There are a boatload of them on E-bay also , but I do not know which part #'s will fit mine. There is one complete kit , but it states it is for 06 and up ? Maybe someone here has one for sale? I would just as soon as buy it here at the forum , if anybody has one. Thanks in advance for any help !!
The quick detach tour pak kit came out in 06 therefore the part # will have the -06 suffix. The kit will work on any 1997 - new touring bike, possibly even back to '95...i am not sure on the exact year that HD changed the style of the tour pak mounting brackets. I have an 01 and initially had the kit put on, but didnt like it so i changed and put the standard mounting bracket back in place. So i am 100% confident the quick detach tour pak kit will work on your 2001 touring bike.
Not true, dealer installed my quick release tour trunk/sissy bar kit in 02 on my 03 classic. it did not become available in 06. However; the 06 is not any different than 2000 and later.
it was too aggrivating to remove, plus I rarely removed it except to clean/wash the bike. I like the tour pak and use it everytime I ride so there was no need to remove it. I didnt go so far as having the antenna reloaction kit. Plus with the rear speakers i had to disconnect 3-4 wires to remove it. It is NOT that i didnt like it...i just found it unnecessary for my type of riding.
I stand corrected the kit was introduced by HD in 04.
Straight from the HD web site...

Fits '97-later Road KingÂŽ, FLHT, FLHX and FLTR models equipped with required docking hardware. FLTR and FLHX models require Antenna Relocation Kit P/N 76326-00A. Does not fit with Layback License Plate Mounting Kit P/N 53385-00. Some EU registration plates may interfere with Tour-PakÂŽ Rack. Models wtih rear fender tip trim can be adapted with seperate purchase of License Plate Relocation Kit P/N 60095-00A.
To clarify, the kit referred to by JB was introduced in '0 for EGC's; previously dealers and owners of EGCs assembled the various component parts in order to make the TP detachable--the '06 kit simply combines the various components (two-up rack, antenna relocation, etc.) into a single kit and PN.
Kevin: The problem with the Ebay listings are that they may or may not include all of the hardware in the original two-up detachable rack kit (e.g. bolts, washers, nuts and spacers). Unless you can confirm precisely all of the hardware involved (and your seller knows what he is selling, which is not always the case), you may buy a rack and be chasing hardware to make the installation successful.
Have your kids buy what you want from Chicago HD, Zanotti's HD or one of the other 20% off list price internet HD dealers.
Personally, I'd suggest you consider using an antenna mountedinside the fairing(Tune Trapper, Dakota Digital, among other choices). You then don't have to buy the HD antenna relocation kit as part of the detachable kit and only need the two-up detachable rack and mounting hardware for ~240 list.
good advice. Getting all of the installation parts was the reason I bought mine from Zanotti's. Checked e-bay several times but never found a deal on the 2up detachable tour pak.
