Default Primary Chain Auto Tensioner

Does anyone have experience witht the automatic chain tensioner that is offered for the primary chain? I know this is standard equipment on 2006 Touring models. H-D sells this as an option for older bikes.

When I had my '03 Dyna Low Rider I installed the tensioner and had no problems.

Installed on 05 Ultra only have 1,000 miles on it. No noise never know it was there. One less thing to do on a service.

Here's the one I installed on my RK shortly after I purchased it. Easy install and it worked as advertised.

I had one installed in my 06 Heritage new. I had 21,500 on it when I sold it. I just did an oil change on it for the guy I sold it to. It"s got 30,000 + on it now. Checked the tensioner, and it looked great.

I didn't care for it myself, thought it kept the chain a bit on the tight side. I went back to stock, make me an offer if interested.

I used the Harley one, over 8000 miles without a problem.

There were 3 makes of these available when I researched it last yr; HD, Hayden M6, & the HB-125. I'm sure they're all good, but I chose the HB-125 due to having uncovered less probs reported w/it. Very happy w/my choice.

I've had two of these, one I installed in my '96 RK and the second standard in my '07 SG. My understanding of the device's machanics is that it can't over-tighten unless it is adjusted too tight at install, so if you buy it follow the instructions carefully. Once adjusted properly it should maintain a good adjustment indefinitely. Make sure you have an impact driver with a large (#1 or #2, IIRC) Phillips bit, as that will be required to remove the old tensioner--or at least it was on my '96. Mine was difficult to remove. Why they would use a Phillips-head bolt in such a place that is Loctited into the inner primary is beyond me.

OTOH, I don't think I would advise retrofitting this or any other auto-adjust tensioner. The reason is that the chain should require few adjustments after about 10k of break-in miles, or at least that's been my experience. You could check it once every 10k and adjust if necessary, as adjustments aren't too involved, and this way you save your HD ($100).
