Ok, so I am planning a fairly lengthy trip inthe late spring and want to know how strict states are on enforcing the helmet law. I don't normally wear one and with the street glide with 2 peoples luggage crammed into the bags I don't think there will be room for the helemts in the bags for those helemt states. Wisconsin is a age limit and I am used to that. We will be riding in a big group and like I said I know its not good pratice but I don't want to take one. If anyone has any input on this matter please let me know. I have ridden through a couple of states and never been bugged in the past for a helmet violation. Thanks in advance.
Go through Nebraskand better be wearing one. I don't have personal experience, but my brother was riding from Minnesota to Colorado and wasn't more than few miles into Nebraska when he was pulled over for not wearing one.
Why not just wear helmets when you travel regardless? 1/2, 3/4, or flip-up/ full face all provide protection and as long as they have a faceshield you will have protection in case of incliment weather.
And for anyone who want to jump in, I do not want to hear any crap about "real bikers" don't wear helmets.
I guess the real reason that I don't wear a helmet is not becuase of the "real biker thing" but the fact I owned cruisers with-out windsheilds, and the harley Sg now with the short sheild is just a pain with buffeting. It wasen't anything other than the uncomfort of wearing a helmet with bikes I have owned. I guess I am going to just have to suck it up and deal with it when I hit the helmet law states. This may have started a who argument, and that wasen't the intentions. I just wanted to know if they are strict on the law. I was hoping that it may be one they over look if you aren't doing anything else wrong. I guess not! Thanks as always.
No worries, TX_RG. I think there have been enough helmet threads on here to show that there are PLENTY OF US who wear helmets regularly. Some of us, even full facers. I know I do.
And, for our travelling friend, if I were you, I would not really want to risk my trip-vacation-money on the "hopes" that Barney Fife really had a good day that day and wanted to pass by some 'easy pickins' when it comes to Country Revenue, on account of "that biker looks really nice and is enjoying life without a helmet, so I'll give him some slack.".... that aint a gonna happen.
Better just be tough and bring em along. Sometimes life sucks, and then we die.
