I have a choice of 2 PC3 downloads, one w/ Stage1ECM and one w/o Stage1ECM...i do not have a Stage1ECM on my bike, is there any reason (performance, etc) to run the Stage1ECM download?
The stage 1 download from the dealer is usually $150. It richens the fuel mixture to a certain (legal) level. It is used when a person installs SE pipes and AC or similar pipes. It is done by HD dealers as the 1st step to fix the lean running issue with stock bikes. The 2nd step they can do for you is to sell you the SERT and do a custom tune of your bike.
The PCIII takes the fuel system even farther. It is usually installed over a stock ECM like you are doing. Sometimes, people with the download want to install a PCIII because they want even more fuel and that is why the map is offered.
Does this make sense? Hope I'm not confusing.

it makes sense...if i havd the dealer stage1 download it wouldn't even be a question...i see that the stage1 pc3 download richens up the fuel even further than the non-stage1 pc3 download...
then i have 2 questions...if i use the stage1 pc3 download (which i didn't), would that simulate me having the stage1ecm from the dealer?...since i don't have the stage1ecm and did download the stage1 pc3, would that richen it up too much?
i guess my real question is, is there any advantage to downloading the pc3 stage1 on a non-stage1 ecm?
i'd assume the real answer is, (since every bike is different) checking my spark plugs
I have the other problem, I have a SERT Cal#78 installed but I have lost or thrown away the "dongle" thing so I can't use it! I want to get a PCIII and put it on the bike but I don't know how much the maps will be off because of this, Also, the PCIII is quicker and easier to change maps. I don't trust ANY of the Dyno "OPERATORS" in my area after run's done on my other bike, 00' FXST.
I guess I could just install it and adjust from there, I have been told the canned cal's from the CD are basicly the same as the dealer downloads. any tips? Chewy

The answer to your first question is no. The end result would be a leaner map as the PC111 map would assume your ECM maphas already been richened some. That makes the answer to your
"real" question, no also.
