my 01 and 06 EGC have 2 links.
One at front lower engine by the oil filter and one at top.
top one has a bracket going to front and rear cylinders and the link going to
the top of frame.
they serve two purposes.
1. a rigid mount to hold the engine in proper configuration to the rame.
(the lower rubber mounts absorb the vibrations)
Without the rigid links the engine would flop around in frame.
2. they are used to physically adjust the motor in the frame to get proper alignment.
added: HD may have relocated one or both in 07 for the 6 gallon fuel tank. Haven't looked that close at an 07 or 08

Actually there are at least three "links". One on the front of the engine (the one that was relocated and moved upto the front ofthe headfor 08), one between the heads (been there a long time, hasn't moved) and the rear mount which is the constant subject of "rear sway/wobble" threads. The third is not so much of a "link" but more of a bolt running through some rubber, the swingarm, and the back of the tranny...it's also considered the rear engine mount. Don't forget there is a front motor mount too...but thats for another subject..
It is there on the 08s to improve the 5th gear noise and the 6th gear jacking in the cruisedrive transmission, it will be available to the 07s for a nominal fee (plus labor charges).
It is not to "fix" any "problem" identified on the 07s, but just an "enhancement" to ridability.......[8D]
Wow. Fun thread. Who's next to spin the "wheel of wtf" and give an answer?
NICE! Thats a new one.
And like PhilM said, you use those little thingys to align your motor in the frame. All rubbermounts have them. And heres a tip from the voice of experience: If you ever remove one for some reason, don't play with them just for the hell of it.

You don't need the one by the oil filter. Go head and send that to me....
