I made a nifty minature cable lock system for helmets, roll bags, jackets, etc. Go to the local hardware store and get a length of 1/8" plastic coated cable. Get a couple of the special eyelets for making loops in the cable and crimp one on each end. Get a tiny padlock and you're all set. It rolls up and it's easy to stow in a pocket. It's small enough to fit through strap fittings on most roll bags and you can also run it through a sleeve on a jacket or the D-rings on a couple of helmets. I usually run it through the sissybar, the rollbag strap and helmets. It's not foolproof and someone could cut it if they really wanted to, but I figure most thieves are too lazy. Mostly it just prevents someone from grabbing your stuff and running off with it. It adds piece of mind and I think I have a total of $7 invested in it.

I have a detachable sissy bar, luggage rack, classic bags, and windshield. I don't worry about the detachables unless I am on a road trip. If other bikes are parked around it, I don't worry nearly as much. I travelling as the only bike and no others in the lot, I have detached every last bit of equipment and placed it in my hotel room for the night.

I leave my helmet when local/trustworthy neighborhood and take it with me if I ever think I'd second guess it.

I guess I'm just paranoid over my stuff. I live in a "friendly" area but you just never know. At work my bike sits right in front of my office window so I can always see it, not to mention everyone there knows me. Usually I just hang the hemet on the handlebars.

Anyplace else all my gear goes with me. I don't mind carrying it. The helmet gives me a place to stow the glasses and gloves. I did just obtain a set of hard saddlebags that I will start using for quick in & out trips.

They cut the helmet strap to take the helmet. Not sure what good the helmet then was without the strap
They figured if they couldn't have it neither could you. I would NEVER leave my helmet unlocked unless standing right there. Buy the locks they have and save the hassle of losing a helmet, especially in helmet law states because then your REALLY SCREWED!!

I have seen locks that attach as barends with locks built in. Im not sure if they would work on a cruiser.

You copied me!!!! I am working on year 10 and I rarley use the cable I made up -- 99% of the time I just lay everything on the seat and all is fine... The cable will stop all but the determined thief.. The cable can go through my jacket, helmet and lock to a secure part of the bike...

We pretty much just leave our helmets hanging on the handlebars. If someone wants it bad enough no matter where you put it they'll find it.

Use a Master cable Gun Lock. Works perfectly and you can lock it to anything.
