I have an '05 RKC and I put the Harley Universal Helmet Lock if for no other reason piece of mind. I live in a good part of town but I actually had my helmet stolen off of my bike in my carport (I think it was some high school punks that also broke into my shop). With regards to locking the saddlebags, I have considered Harley's saddlebag lock to secure them to the bike and was curious if anyone had any experience with them. Is there any way to secure the lids closed on the Classic saddlebags?
Ok, this topic jogged my memory...time for a story.
My wife and I decided to go to one of the parades here in Tacoma, WA. It went right down the main drag of town and parking was a bear, even on a bike. At the time, I was riding a V65 Magna. Because of the parking issue, I was forced to park on a back street not far from what is commonly known as the hilltop area (not a real nice place to be...especially after dark).
Anyways, after a couple hours of walking around during the middle of the day, with thousands of people all around, we headed back to the bike. As I was approaching, I started looking for my keys. After searching all my pockets, I started to get concerned. I decided not to say anything to the ole lady until we got up there, so I could snag them out of the ignition before she figured out what I'd done(not that I do that very often..<-lie).
Unfortunatly, they weren't in the ignition...my wife picked up my bundle of keys (bike, house, garage, both cars, work, etc...) right where I'd left them...laying in plain sight on the passenger seat.
Ok, that was my idiot story moment...I've never had anything stolen off or from my bike in 20 years...lucky I guess. Now I"m gonna go find some wood to knock on.
I got one for you. If you buy something, then someone will steal it if you leave it unattended. They stole my third row seats out of my SUV. In New York city, yeah New York City. Anyway I got the Harley saddle bag locks for the RK classic. It took sometime to install, a good full days project if you're not riding. They matched the locks to your bikes steering lock, so you just use one key for all 3 locks. I like it.
Hey dapster, if you check the RK custom saddle bags lock it's like that. Youâre installing a lock actuator, cable, inner frame and lid lock. When the actuator button is unlocked you push in on the lock, which moves a cable to unlock the lid. Basically the lock is just for the lid, so if the lid is lock then it prevents them for on-snapping the bags.
I use the cable and padlock method, works great. Here in Georgia its conceled carry too. Haven't ever had to brandish my weapon...well except for the time at the local supermarket when two young kids/punks stopped at my bike and noticed the leather jacket and said "nice jacket mister" and I replied "yes it is" (as I pulled my .40 cal and checked the safety then put it back in the holster) and I expect it to be here when I return. You should have seen the look in their eyes, priceless...
I know it was wrong to pull it out like that, but I couldn't resist.
