I ran a canned map from PC for about two seasons. Last spring I was at a light when the bracket for the cold idle motor fell off the throttle shaft. The bike was dyno'd after the repair. The tuner said the canned map was real close, but he tweaked it a little. From the seat of the pants, I can't tell any difference from before the repair.

Went with duals on my bike becauseI gotthem for approx. $550.00 off retailthrough Dennis Kirk on Ebay cuz they couldn't find the starter mount bracket a couple mounting bolts. A properly tuned 2-1 will almost always out perform a dual torque wise (no one had lost any hardware for any 2-1's when I was shopping). However, I tunedmine up with a sert and got a huge boost over the Sampson slip-ons I was running before which had earlier given me a good boost from stock. If you are realpatient (and possibly obsessive compulsive)with your tuning you can set them up where you can really minimize the loss of low end torque.
Update on the true dual post I left a few months ago. I SOLD MY FULLSAC TD's, V&H Ovals, Big City Thunder Baffles AND now run RINEHART TRUE DUALS. I also added a PC III as the Stage 1 Flash was running to lean. Night & Day difference! Should have done this from the start. DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY & TIME WITH THE SETUP I DID ORIGINALLY!!! RINEHART'S ARE THE BEST PERFORMING AND SOUNDING. NO Loss on the bottom as the other TD's you'll lose and make some of it back with the BCT baffles #2003. Comparing the 2 setups now, the old one was so-so, the new one is perfect!! Just wanted to add this as I wasted a lot of time on here trying to read everything about the TD options. Hope this now helps anyone who is looking. It only costs a few more $ to do it right...

I have a question about yoiur Sampsons. Did you find that your Sampson popped a lot on decel?
The big benefit of a 2-1 system is the scavenging effect the exhaust gas that is expelled from one cylinder has on theheader pipe coming from the other. In essence - it draws the exhaust gas out which in turn aids in filling the cylinderwith a fresh air/fuel mixture. At lower rpms, this proves vital in creating torque. It works on the same principle as blowing across the end of a straw in a glass of scotch - the pressure drop will create suction.
At higher rpms, the inertia of the flow takes over and a 2-1 could actually hinder hp due to restrictions (I'm talking about serious rpms). That's why when we used to build V-8s, we used to always put long, tuned headers on street cars and side dumps or zoomies on high-rpm motors for the strip.
The extra turn the Bub duals have is based on maintaining an equal amount of back-pressure by keeping the pipe length the same - CWO
The potato-potato sound is more a function of a single fire ignition operating at a lower rpm idle. The Twin Cam has a dual fire system - each cylinder fires independently, as opposed to the older single-fire ignition that would fire both cylinders - one of the power stroke, the other on the exhaust- CWO
