As far as buying a SG or an EG, I've always bought EGs and stripped them down. BUT, since they now make the SG which was not available when I bought my other bikes, I think I would go with the SG and add touring if needed. My take on this is that I like the no-pinstripe look of the SG, and the clean front fender, and the painted saddlebag latches, and the seat, and ................ For me, the SG is closer to what I want than the other way around. Yes, it would be a better deal to get the EG, but only go that route if you would be happy with the paint, gauges, and other things that would be costly to change later. JMHO.

The SG is lowered in the rear only.
Pick up a set of 13" shocks on ebay for $50, and your good to go. I did that, and added lowering blocks. Now it sits as low as it did stock, but rides much better.

Thanks for the input guys. The reason I like the street glide over the eg is that it has a much cleaner appearance. I like the plain fenders, mirrors in the fairing, and filler panels between the bags and rear fender. I dont like lowered bikes because I live in the mountains and a lot of my riding is in the twisties. But it sounds like a pair of 13 inch shocks should help with that issue.

The reason I bought the SG was because it was lowered. I can actually touch the ground with a little flex in the knee. I had trouble on the other ultras, as I am about 5-08 on a GOOD day, with short legs. It rides great, but then again, I am comming off a sporty!

totally agree---there are some fantastic deals on used bikes---I would look for a used EGC or Ultra and turn it into a SG

I agree with PT, the EG Classic is the best bang for your buck. The only other thing I would add, it is the best time of the year to buy a used bike. You would probably get any mods that were done for next to nothing. The 1" difference isn't going to really mean much unless you were planning on scraping the pegs around corners anyways.Good Luck.

Then you can strip down the EG classic for the SG look, but still have to goodies for a long trip. Just my opinion, but if I was looking for a SG, I would buy a Eg classic, and strip it down. Me too and I love mine. Been riding for a few days on it now an it just keeps getting better.
