Default Street Glide Question

I am buying a new bike in the next few months. The street glide is my first choice but I dont like the fact it is lowered. Is it lowered just in the rear or in the forks as well? What is the rear shocks lenght on a street glide? Thanks for your input.

The SG rear shock is 12". Its lowered front a year about an 1". I have one and love it. I did upgrade the year shocks to 12" progressive 440's but the stock shocks were ok.

SG shocks are 12", RK's and EG's are 13"
there are take off stock 13"ers for sale on ebay cheap

I agree with KansasRK. You can buy parts cheap on eBay and elsewhere as "take offs". If it's a Streetglide you want, then don't let the ride height be an issue, it's very easily overcome.

I'm installing take off 13" shocks I purchased here on the HD Forum, next week. There are several pair on sale on Ebay right now seling for $50- or less.

For the money, you might be better of getting a eg classic. Basically the same as the SG, but has the 13" shocks, and a tour pack. Then you can strip down the EG classic for the SG look, but still have to goodies for a long trip. Just my opinion, but if I was looking for a SG, I would buy a Eg classic, and strip it down. It is cheaper to remove items for the SG look, than it is to buy parts, to get a long haul cruiser of the EG classic... again, IMO.

I agree with PT, the EG Classic is the best bang for your buck. The only other thing I would add, it is the best time of the year to buy a used bike. You would probably get any mods that were done for next to nothing. The 1" difference isn't going to really mean much unless you were planning on scraping the pegs around corners anyways.Good Luck.

I have a sg and I am a big guy and the fact that it is "lower" has had no bering on the riding or turning of the scoot in any way shape or form. As far as getting an EG I agree with what other members say but if I had a choice again I would still buy a sg because I might only do two or three road trips a year which is when I would need the additional storage but pretty much I ususally ship my luggage to my final destination and then have it shipped back home so with my saddlebags is plenty for me...

I have a 07 SG. The fact that it's lowerd never was a problem for me what so ever.

I always thought the SG was lowered in the rear, but not the front, am I wrong?

As far as buying a SG or an EG, I've always bought EGs and stripped them down. BUT, since they now make the SG which was not available when I bought my other bikes, I think I would go with the SG and add touring if needed. My take on this is that I like the no-pinstripe look of the SG, and the clean front fender, and the painted saddlebag latches, and the seat, and ................ For me, the SG is closer to what I want than the other way around. Yes, it would be a better deal to get the EG, but only go that route if you would be happy with the paint, gauges, and other things that would be costly to change later. JMHO.
