I am looking to buy an Ultra Classic and a dealer is offering a leftover ' 07 (new) Ultra for $2,000 less than the equivalent ' 08. Are the new Brembo brakes, and drive-line fix he told me about along with throttle by wire worth the extra $2,000 or should is the ' 07 basically the same bike as the ' 08?
I'd be looking to make a deal on that 07. See if he'll throw in the IDS on the 07. Does the 08 you are looking at have ABS? If not, I wouldn't put too much thought into the brakes. The 08 has a bigger gas tank which would be nice, but only when riding solo.
I would definately buy the '08. I traded my 06 RKC on an '08 EGC and haven't regretted it. This is the smoothest bike I have ever rode. A buddy of mine has an '07 and IMO it can't compete with all the upgrades on the '08. The obvious ones are the IDS, Brembo brakes and, if so equipped, ABS. But don't overlook some of the smaller changes, the seat on my '08 is MUCH more comfortable then on previous rides, there is a "slot" in the back where the driver sits, it is to relieve pressure on the tailbone. A little thing but it really does make a difference on the longer rides, I can feel it. Also I believe there was a radio/speaker upgrade for '08 as well as some minor changes in the engine/tranny to quieten the bike some. The TBW system is nice, I cannot even tell it doesn't have cables and changing out the grips are a snap with the new system, the grip just popped off and I slid the new one on. Lastly the six gallon tank is nice, if you ride alot of miles. It probably won't make much difference riding with your buds but on long trips alone it is nice to have that extra gallon, I kinda use it as a reserve, fuel up like I always did but have some for emergency. Speaking of fueling, the speedo has a digital readout that gives you an odo, two trip meters and a miles to empty function, although I still fuel up based on how far i have travelled. I hope you found this info helpful.
I had a 07 FLHX & traded for a 08 Ultra.The 08 is by far the smoothest,best running stock bike I have ever owned.PM me & I can give you more reasons.Regards,Tom

Go with the 08 - 6 gallon tank, ABS brakes, cableless throttle control, comfortable seat, Isolated drive system (installed on an 07 I had and what a differance).
