My wife and I each rode our Harleys up to Alaska last July. You ask about not getting the crud off your bikes, YES, it's real tough to wash off, matter of fact, you can't just "wash" it off,Their roadsup thereare made with crushed rock, when it gets wet, it turns into thing like cement. Looks like cement too, same color. The only way you will get the darn stuff off is to scrub it off, maybe. Eventually you may just give up, anddeside to leave some ofit on.My wife did. Me, I traded my bikein for a 2008 when I got back. Nothing will wear out a bike like the Alcan highway.
Would I do it again? In a heart beat!

Here's what I know from spending a summer in northern Alberta.
As far as weather goes, expect winter at night and the morning, rain for a shortwhile everyday, spring/summer in the afternoon.
Stick to BC if you want scenery, nothin' to see east of the Rockies.
Beautiful landcapes, and what I thought were really nice highways.
And as mentionned, WATCH for animals, and pedestrians, who always have right of way, even on 4 lane highways...they just walk right out.
Bring a camera, and plenty of memory...don't feed the bears...and, a moose is not a friendly animal.

Gonna be a nice getaway, enjoy!
Enjoy and watch out for Moose they are bigger than a truck and Mean as any critter I ever met.
I saw a guy on a sport bike in North Pole. Going down the road there was a moose standing there he simply swerved around it and Bam Hit the baby Moose (400lbs). The mother Moose went to the motorcyclist who was laying in the ditch and started stomping the **** out of him. Some dude in a Pick up truck Literally pushed the cow away with his truck. They are dark brown and hide well off the side of the road.
