I spoke with Jagg last summer and was told that Jagg supplied the HD coolers at one time but no more. If true, I don't know when the cutoff date was, or who's supplying the coolers now. I plan on calling them again soon to ask about running two coolers in series, so I'll ask that question again.
Thinking of getting an oil cooler. Jagg FLH 10 row or HD? Leaning toward Jagg.
I would buy the 10-row with the HD thermostat, but there's a problem with that idea. Checking my parts list for the cooler kit I see the t'stat is available from HD separately ($68 at Zanotti's), but the gasket is listed as "not sold separately." Okay, so if you need a new gasket you must buy a whole new cooler kit? That doesn't make sense, but that's what the parts list says. If so, it would be hard to duplicate it, as from my recollection it is thick and the cutouts would be difficult to make accurately. That's would be too critical a part to jury rig, IMO.
The only reason I mention the HD t'stat is that a friend installed a Jagg t'stat on his bike and it opened too soon. The replacement didn't open at all and he gave up and installed it without a t'stat. Bad idea, IMO. If you buy the Jagg t'stat I would check it carefully for proper operation, which will be hard to determine 'til the weather warms up. At this time my oil doesn't get hot enough for the t'stat to open on my HD cooler, and probably won't 'til ambient temps get above 80°. You can tell when the t'stat is open when the cooler is hot on both ends, a bit cooler on the right, obviously.
Why is the Jagg 10 row 79.00 cheaper, if in fact it is the same unit???
It's not the same, as the HD unit is a six-row. Remember that the HD kit includes the thermostat, and the Jagg probably does not. IIRC, the Jagg coolers and t'stats are purchased separately.
What about a Jagg 10 row but block the fins until the temps get hot enough to need it? I don't think it is hot enough in the San Antonio area right now to need it but by once it changes it will be for months at a time. I am alittle unsure about the t'stat thing. I did a search and was reading others who had issues with them. What'cha think about this idea? Could go to a leatherer and get a cover made.
You can get a "re-new" kit with the gaskets from your dealer. It will have the big gasket and the gasket for the thermostat cover. I bought two of them a couple of months back for around fifteen each I think.
