Polaris the parent company of Victory at the same time HD laid off 1000, they laid off 500 due to slow sales in polaris... not alot but.... smaller company... just another product of the slow economy

Just think of poor Indian Motorcycles. With HD and Victory laying off, could they have picked a worse time to try to make their comeback?

I rode a Vision last year at Bike Week, really a strange experience driving something with a mini-van style dash way out in front where you had to lean forward to touch it. Felt like an overgrown scooter.

The Victory dealership here will not take pre-owned Victory's in on trade, the Polaris dealership next door doesn't deal in the Victory motorcycles, only the 4 wheelers and watercraft. This pretty much sums up the brand. Here's my take on their problem.

The Victory's are not a bad motorcycle, some of the models (not the Vision) look pretty good and they are mechanically sound. They are priced much higher than the competing Japanese cruisers that also look pretty good (to a novice shopper) and are mechanically sound and have a larger dealer network. Someone looking at a Victory would probably also consider one of the Japanese bikes, much cheaper and easier to trade and sell. Someone who truly wants a Harley will probably not settle for a Victory. This really limits them in the marketplace.

Our local Victory dealer is running ads for new 04-07 models in the showroom at deep discounts. Would you buy a new 5 year old bike?

Test drove one before I bought my Ultra Classic. I agree, can't see spending that kind of money on plastic.

Got to see one up close, it just don't look like it would be comfortable to ride at all and ugly is the understatement of the year.

One of my ridin buddys bought one and I made him mad when I told him "it's just like an ugly woman, it may feel and handle good when your ridding but when it's parked or standing still you have to close your eyes to do a hands on" ! I'm sorry but if you can't stand back and admire a thing of beauty then it becomes very HARD to pay for. I can set back, prop my legs up, open a beer and feast my eyes on damn nice Road King and all is well in the world !

I actually test rode one, and it's a pretty nice ride. Heated seat and grips are standard with 106" motor, 6 speed, electric windshield, etc. Not much room in the saddlebags or the trunk for that matter, especially with the CD changer. Pulled pretty well two up as I had the wife on the back. Just couldn't get past the looks of the thing.
