WHO cares I have an idea instead of worrying about it. TRY RIDING the damn bike and it wont matter anyway because they will get covered with soot. G#D DAMN pepole that buy a bike and dont ride it. Thats the problem I have with H-D WAY to many posers with a Harley. I can remember as a kid when we went to the H-D shop we were looked down on because we had a motorcycle and now look every poser in the world has one.

Thats right - If you don't own a Harley now, don't get one because if you haven't been riding one since 1903 you're not a real Harley rider so don't bug me you poser ***.

Perhaps all the people who respond with"don't worry about it - just ride it" comments will take their own advise whenever someone comes here to ask an honest question about their bike.

As lean as the bikes run now, I'm not sure the inside ends of the stock mufflers really "soot up" much. I'd put 10k on mine before I yanked them off and they showed no sign of soot/carbon/whatever between the baffle and the edge of the pipe (just slight rust as described above). It's like what littlecarbon that may have existed was being directed out beyond that section (leaving the unfinished area between the baffle and tip to rust).

I see it on most every '07-'08 bike with stock pipes down here. It is a bit more noticeable on the RK's and RG's with stock slash up's. Shoot some bar-b-que pit paint in there and nobody will ever know.

My 08 Ultra had the same rust, new right from the dealer.
I removed the rust and used engine paint(black),Just did it yesterday.
So far so good.

I thought these forums were so folks could not only meet other riders but to ask questions and learn about their bikes and stuff. If those of you who are the "real bikers" only want to talk to other "real bikers" why don you start your own forum? If you don't like someone else's post just don't post a reply, why go postal?

I have a '06 and just put my stock mufflers back on. Sure enough I noticed they were also rusted in the tips. Figured I'd run some steel wool on them and shoot a little flat black paint in there.
Funny how this post appeared today when I was thinking about the same thing!
