I took the course in October, I used to ride with a club in the late 80's early 90's on a Sporty and thought it was fun to go bar hopping and take random chicks out on the back for a ride not really knowing the finer points of being a safe rider and not caring at such a young age thinking I was indestuctible an bulletproof, but now that I am older and MUCH wiser I took the course before ordering my new 20K+ SG.

This is my first time posing in this great forum. I have been lurking for about the last six months and finally decided to chime in. I have been riding bikes since my early days in Montana changing sprinkler pipes in the flathead valley on a Honda 90. I apologize for not introducing myself properly but I do really appreciate all of the great comments. I have had numerous large bikes but never a Harley until a month ago. This thread really got me to thinking (and questioning) my own skills as a rider. I ordered the DVD today and am looking forward to some advanced rider classes this summer. I just wanted to say thank-you to all of you for your many positive comments on this subject. I preach safety as a valueregularly at work and am somewhat hypocritical to not look at motorcycling the same way.

I've been riding since I was 8.
Took the Ride Like A Pro course a few years back and now I join in almost every class they have when I have the time.

Cops can ride.

I started riding when I was 13 or 14 and took the MSF BRC for the first time last summer at 41. I still learned a few things and had some fun too. I have the RLAP DVD and plan to take the ERC in a couple years

I would REALLY like to take the advanced MSF course, but I have to be honest. Im nervous about dropping/messing up my $30,000 bike doing so. (yea, I know, better there than on the street in traffic) I wish I had an older bike to to take the course on the FIRST time, then go back and take it the second time on my bike.

Which RIDE LIKE A PRO course would you guys recommend? I know there are several, are they progressive courses, or just updated versions of the same course released over time?

Don't be afraid to drop your bike! I put water heater hose on the engine guards. (6' strip cost $1.25 @ Home Depot)
You do have engine guards don't you? If not purchase some (cheap insurance) and put the hose on the guards.
They take less than five minutes to install and then PRACTICE the techniques in the RLAP video.

I have used the water heater hose when practicing and I have dropped my bike, but not a single scratch.
Get over the fear of dropping your bike and learn the correct way to pick it up when you do drop it.
(also on the RLAP video)

Like I heard him say...people spend 20-30 thousand on a motorcycle and not one penny to learn how to ride it!

http://www.ridelikeapro.com Ride Like a Pro video

Yes, I take the MSF Experienced Riders Course EVERY year.
I have learned more, at my own pace, from the RLAP video!

I have been riding since I was 15 years old. I have taken the BRC and ERC classes.
The RLAP video taught me how to ride a motorcycle. My skills are now 500% better!

I have also taken the RLAP Rider Training class twice.
The first time I took the class it was difficult.
The second time I took the class I aced all the exercises.
Take the class if you get the opportunity it is OUTSTANDING!

IMHO the RLAP video is the BEST investment you can spend on your bike.
