IMO, it's a waste of money to use synthetic in the primary. I use simple HD Formula+ Anyhow, I agree that you should adjust your clutch at the basket, then the cable if you are experiencing slippage
As long as you're using an oil compatible with a wet clutch, you'll be fine. Just watch out for oils w/an "Energy Star" rating - they usually have additives that'll lead to clutch slippage!
I've been using syn3 for 3 or 4 years never a problem. Maybe like everyone else said just need a simple clutch adjustment. Only takes about an hour including a beer break.
I've read that the primary lube is chain lube and clutch coolant. Some aftermarket clutch kit manufacturers don't reccommend Synthetic lubes in the primaries. EnergyOne is one of those that do not reccommend it for their Kevlar friction discs. I have had to rebuild mine in a 96 EGCI after 50+K. The bike had been changed to SYN3 at my request after 40K and it did find spots to leak from , but the cutch did not suffer from the SYN3 but did fail due to the older chatter assembly used by HD from 90-97.
