Clutch
So I have this problem with my clutch that when the bike itself is always hot that it tends to either slip or get real spongy. I tried three different oils and every time it gets hot does the same thing I brought it back to the dealer to have it adjusted to no avail what could it be, I've tried amsoil rotella 15/40 and super tech 10/40. It doesn't seem to engage until the last inch or so when letting the clutch out 😔
my thoughts- worth 2¢:
changing fluid brands gives you a mix of fluids- maybe compatible, maybe not.
on a 'wet change' ( drain the primary through the hole), about 7 or 8 oz of fluid remains in the clutch- some of it soaked into the clutch disks- they are made to absorb fluid.
switching to another fluid for the other 38 oz in the primary gives a mix...and the old fluid is still absorbed in the disks. there is no magic fluid which will correct a mechanical problem ( except whisky)
clutches that slip can warp the steel plate and glaze the disks, it only gets worse. warped steels will be grabby, glazed disks will just slip more and more. both of these can happen at the same time
the EZ pull clutch that HD uses since 2007 is similar to the EZ Boy Lite Cutch kit many of us used since the 80's- it changes the length of the lever at the other end of teh clutch cable. adjustment is a little trickier, and crucial. too easy to misadjust and get slipping.
90% of the time, adjusting exactly as in the book will get the best results- "adding a 1/2 turn" as some riders do, isn;t always the best result if the temperature changes.
