My daddy always said "Son, if you gonna buy, buy what you want, not what others want". But like you did 2nd opinions from knowledgable people sure doesn't hurt.

But since you asked. I would wonder about the maintenance costs of a bike modified that much. If you think you can afford that Go for it.

Good Luck!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

TexasRedneck,said I "valued" it, didn't say I would listen.lol
WideGlide95th,other than a '91 frame w/a '05 front end and a lot of powdercoating, w/127 Ultra, which people either love or hate, like most everything else in life, it is not really that highly modified. I am a 56 year old "cheesehead" my days and my riding seasons are both getting shorter, used to have "fat tire" bragging rights out here in the sticks, will loose that but will gain "biggest engine" rights. It's all good man.

I'd have them put it on a dyno and "stress" test the drive train. I wouldn't place much stock in the technical skills of Harley dealership techs to properly assemble and install non-stock pieces--they havea hard enough time installing stock parts on new bikes, let alone assembling a one-off like you are considering.

But hey, you're going to buy it anyway--report back after you have ridden it a few hundred miles.

Have been eagerly reading post and getting all the info I could when I decided to get rid of my metric cruiser and get a Harley Bagger. Need something that is easier on my significant others behind . Was interested in Street Glide and Roadking, but was hard pressed to get rid if the sleek, lower, fat tire (280) of my Warrior but I think I found the bike, your opinions would be helpfull, have a deposit on it pending trade in allowance and financing.

I know from reading you have really made up your mind, but I dont believe you have made considerations for the "comfort" factor your looking for. Though the bike looks really sleek. It looks like a Bar Hopper then a true bagger made for long rides and comfort.

Just my .02 cents

Frank

It is at St.Paul Harley Davidson, owned by a salesman, he has new bike sitting, wants to sell this bike. Started as a '91 Ultra Classic, stripped to frame, powdercoated high gloss black, put on front end from '05 roadking, all black, 21"spokes on front,18" rear w/avons, chain drive w/all new sprockets. All new wireing harness w/lines run in bars . Brake/running lights flush mounted to hard bags, 127 Ultima, show polish finish, still under warranty. 6 speed gearset in stock case. All new seals/bearings. Barnett scorpion clutch in primary, primary has new seals and bearings.New HD charging system including voltage regulator. All new HD skull accces. like grips, rider/passenger floorboards, axel covers, timing cover, air cleaner cover, ect.. Has chrome high torque starter and new HD battery, compression releases, wired for trickle charger, stretched and widened tank w/pop up filler. All black except for the wheels, engine/tranny ,Rhinehart 2 into 1. Dyno'd at 136 hp, ya I know that means a bunch of nothing, sharp looking bike, $12,000. basicly an all new bike 1,500 miles, built it, took it to Sturgis last year, has been at dealer since Sept, now selling it, has built or had a number of bikes built over the years, says no corners were ccut, a proffesional build, all work done by certified mechanics. What do you think. Thanks Tried to upload, says file to large.

You may not like my opinion, but here goes.... ;

I think this is just a long laundry list of **** that spewed from a salesman's mouth to pump you up to close the sale....

If you got a hard-on for a tire smokin' bar hoppin', runs like a bat outta hell hotrod show bike with saddlebags, man you've found it, by all means buy it!! [sm=icon_rock.gif]

If you're looking for a reliable, low maint., comfy for the OL, over-the-road "bagger", like a Roadking or Streetglide, this ain't it man... [sm=forgetit.gif]

Either way I don't really care, it's your $ and your decision, just take the time to think about what you really want.

I know that my mouth sometimes says things and my mind thinks another, and a guy allways wants more than what he needs, yada, yada yada. I have a kickass looking bike, if I don't say so myself, in the Warrior, plenty of power and a good looking bike and have had 6 great seasons w/it, but I have outgrown it, maybe a little bit in my head, and a little bit in my body and I know that the upright gynagological seating position that it puts my significant other in, is not a good thing for her. So when I say I need a baggerto throw some things in and go on long hauls and have it be more comfortable for her, well I kind of mean it all, but what I really think I mean is That I want a Kickass looking bike w/bags and plenty of power, to replace my baby, the Warrior and it would be great to have a couple of bags to throw a couple of things in if we wanted to overnight it and if it was more comfortable for the significant other, that would be great to. So I quess when I say bagger, I am not being true to the term, I just want a hot rog w/bags. Thats it in a nut shell. If this same bike had a TC w/1500 miles I think it would be a better thing and I think people would tend to be more open to it but it doesn't, its got a Ultima 127, I have did a search on the forum and read both good and bad as I have of the TC, you would think that after more than 100 years they could build a bike that did not keep having some of the problems that keep happening,S&S has detractors as Revtech and others. If I can get a couple of three good seasons out of it I will be happy, I am not a speed demon by any stretch of the imagination and take good care of my bike and am a fair wrench. I just don't see a big down side, it is an almost new old bike. I know I will be happy and worse case scenerio is that in a couple of three years I get a "real bagger". One w/trouble free engine, cruise control, comfy living room like seat, beautiful stereo, warranty...Yes I have valued your opinions and they have made me think, but I think I will get it and let the dice fall were they may and look good at it, if I don't say so myseldf.lol

Was originally purchased as an '91 uultra w/damaged front end, went from their, Bike is being sold for $12,000., owner told me engine was still under warranty, really don't care, like the bike , is financially in my reach, want it. If it was a bone stock '91 I would not consider the asking price, to me it is a new and improved '91, sleek and powerfull and I like it. thanks
you should stop there. sounds like you've already made your mind up. why solicit opinions when you know the outcome??

There is plenty of stuff I know I am about to buy that I still get opinions on...

12K for a pretty custom bagger is not too much to ask. If you think about it, only the frame and brakes maybe and such are 16 years old. The engine and tranny, wheels, bearings, and important stuff is not. I spent 4-5K customizing my stock 20K SG. What I got like 24-25K into it now? Bike still looks mostly stock.
For 12K you are riding in something that doesNOT look stock, is probably reliable enough, and would be a blast to ride. And you get all of this for 12K less than I spent...

Whats the number...I'll buy it.

Good luck with your purchase.
