Which back rest did you install? I had the '04 Screamin' Eagle Electra Glide backrest (52695-04)on my 07 EGC. Now have an 08 UC and I am not sure of the fit. The 08 seats seems have a little higher back support pad - not sure how the same back rest will fit on the 08.
Mine folds forward, makes it easier for me. I really like the back rest.
I had a cop seat with the air bladder that was VERY comfortable, but I wanted the 2 up seat. I bought the backrest a month or so after I got the 2-up.
Does a backrest make it more difficult for a passenger to get on a bike?
Yes it does. But, It is a learning curve either way you look at it, especially if it's a bagger with a trunk. Lots of the rests fold down to the front to help.
Me thinks ... yes. I have never seen a race bike with a rider backrest ... seems to me that if they improved a bike's handling then the pros would be using them.
It probably improved your riding poster, which in turn could do some of the things you are feeling, if it sat you up straight, and moved you slightly forward it could cause the bike to handle better due to your riding position. IMHO

Sorta like ape hangers I guess.. If they REALLY improved handling, you would see them on race bikes.
Great post. I bought my bike used last year and the prior owner had a rider backrest on the bike. I tossed it into my shed and never put it on the bike. My kids would tease me about putting it on so one day as a goof I gave it a try. I also have a bad back and it is the most awesome thing I ever put on a bike. Have never road without it.
