You're not missing much, imo. I installed them on my 08 SG and they do not deflect wind. Those should be called wind directors instead of deflectors. A waste of a $100.00 bill, in my experience.

I agree. The $25 fork mounted one decreased the wind coming up over the tank and made a lot more difference then the fairing mounted ones do. Maybe they will work in the open position on hot days but it will be a while before I can test that one.

Fairing deflectors, fork deflectors, fork baffle.....

If you don't think one or more don't make a difference, just get used to them. Go for a ride on a 35 degree day, then take them off, and go for another ride.

You'll soon be a believer....

It was 26 degrees when I left the house yesterday. I didn't say they don't work I'm just saying in my opinion the fork baffle made a more noticable difference in wind reduction.

I personally dont think they make enough difference to matter (as deflectors), except in 2 areas:

1. When my feet are up on the highway pegs, they DO seem to kick the air out just far enough that it does not travel right up my leg and buffet into my face. (guess Im just the right height, leg angle, etc to cause that)

2. I think they make the "bar wiggle" MUCH worse when your stuck in turbulence next to a Semi. I mean think about it, they are effectivly a nice FLAT paddle catching the wind on the outermost edge (ie: most leverage) of your fairing. I know that when I took mine off (and they have been on and off a dozen times) suddenly, passing semis was much less of a butt pucking event.

For me personally, #2 outweighed #1. Hence, they sit in my toolbox, instead of being on the bike. Im gonna try trimming them down to about half size this spring, to see if I can help issue #1 somewhat, without impacting #2 as much.

BTW, these are the basic, solid ones Im refering to, I have not tried the adjustable/openable ones, nor do I intend to, since the only advantage there is that I can open them to allow more air to buffet me in the face.
