Default RE: Road King question?

I did post this same question at the softail forum, I am looking to see a true perspective from the owners of each model! I did not want this question to turn into a bashing session in the general forum, as they tend to do sometimes! I know from reading here at the HDForumsthat the touring forum has more posts as well, so I know that the touring bikes are more popular! I have only owned an older AMF Sportster back in theeighties and now a 07 FXD.Both my friends and I have just sold off some of our other toys so wehave been talking about getting more of atouring stylebike! I unfortunately have notdriven either model so I am looking for your opinion as owners of both bikes! Either way I will be purchasing a H-D! And in the whole realm of it, that is what is important to meI guess! Both sides have given a good argument for their specific model choices so far, so lets see where it goes! Well, have a great day all! I am happy to be able to talk and learn fromsuch a great group of people here!Joe.

I was set to buy a Heritage and even went so far as sitting down to make a deal on a new one. When the dealer and I were unable to come to an understanding, I went to another deal intending to do the same. On the way in there was an used RKC sitting by the door. I commented tot eh salesman about how it was a sharp bike and he asked if I wanted to test drive it. The next day I bought it.

I have rode both bikes and like both. The Heritage has a feeling of sitting in the bike which is nice. The RK has a feelign of sitting on it. For me at least, at low speeds, the Heritage just felt more stable. Once you get it up to speed though, the RK shines hands down. I'm 6'0 and have long legs and arms. On the Heritage I felt cramped. I also much prefer the A motor over the counter-balanced B. Its not for everyone but I prefer to vibrate at stop lights and not at 70 mph. The B motor gives you the opposite.

The RKC also has the dual front brakes, the air adjustable shocks, cruise, etc. All are just little things but do add up. The Heritage is a fine looking bike though.

Basically I think it comes down to preference and taste.

I had a FLSTC for 7 years and loved it. I didn't use the windsheild except of long trips, and had it to where I could remove the saddlebags and the sissybar/rack if I wanted to. I mostly rode lacally, but had it across the country several times, two up with no problems. I now ride a RKC and love it. As far as highway ride, it is much better. I don't have any problems with local riding, but I would say that the Softail was more nimble(?).

I had always liked the look of the Heritage, and I figured that it would be the bike that I would end up with. After seeing the RKC I had a change of plans. Must agree with most that the best route would be to test drive both. I know that the dealers in Central Jersey have demo runs, when the weather is a little nicer. You just have to show up early on a Saturday morning and hop on.

I currently have a sportster and was looking to get a Heritage also but after riding both I decided to move up to the RKC and keep the sportster. Now after riding the RC I find myself wanting to sell the sportster.
