Default RE: Oil temp gauge question

Installing the sensor the MoCo way is a PITA. Most of us have installed the sensor in the second plug hole in the oil pan. You can even do it with a full crank of oil with minimal oil loss. You will need to pick up an adapter to mate the sensor to the oil pan. I went to NAPA and picked one up. It is #3220 x 6 x 2. When I installed the oil guage in the fairing, I swapped it out with the fuel gauge and put the fuel gauge in the air temp spot. I ran the wire from the fairing down along the clutch cable, along the bottom frame rail then 90* over to the oil pan.
Actually the MOCO way is not that difficult, it's just as easy as the drain pan install. HOWEVER, you will get excessively high oil pressure readings using the MOCO adapter. There is something about how that gasket lines up between the adapter and the crankcase that just doesn't appear to be aligned correctly. The other concern is the tiny hole that allows the oil to flow through the adapter and through the filter.

I gave up on it after several tries. I just couldn't trust it or tell if oil was flowing through the adapter with the same capacity.

Don't waste your time and follow the advice of the experienced and knowledgable people on this forum.

Connect to the pan via the $8 Napa adapter.
