I'm looking into a GPS for use on my bike as well as in the car.
I'm looking at a Garmin Nui200 or a street pilot c530.
Can anyone tell me other than mounting, why either of these might not work on my bike ?
I know the Zumo is made for bikes, but I was trying not to spend that much money.
Thanks
Mike
I received a Nuvi 200W for Christmas. The Nuvi isn't waterproof in case you get caught in a rainstorm. Finding a mount for the200Wwas thenext thing to overcome.
I received a 250W Nuvi for Christmas and after a lot of searching, I'm in the process if making a mount. It consists of a split aluminum collar 1 in. ID 2 in. OD and 1/2 wide from mcmaster.com item # 6436k73. A length of aluminum 1/4 in. rod threaded and bent to fit contour I need. I took the Ball off of a spare mount I bought. I drilled and taped it 1/4-20 to thread on the rod. The whole assembly cost less than $20 and will fit in small change purse. When done, I'll polish it. Sorry can't take pictures of it. Dan
I just bought a magellan crossover water proof for car bike or snowmobiling, under 300.00 found bike mount on e-bay for 15.00 also has built in mp3 player with sd slot...
The top choice is the Zumo, which is made specifically for the motorcyles. Waterproof, shockproof (ask me how i know?). The 550 comes with both car and bike mounts ready to go.
You can make others work just fine, but don't know how well they are gonna hold up over time.
Mine is used every single day, whether on the bike or the car. I added the XM antenna which gives me the traffic conditions thru the Zumo and will route you around them, as well as playing XM radio.
I have a Garmin Streetpilot I3 mounted on my Streetglide, $225.00 a couple of years ago. RAM Mounts makes over 1500 mounting devices if you want to set up your own mounts. They make mounts for motorcycles, boats, airplanes, etc. You can use their online catalog and type in the bike you have and what you want to mount and they give you the options. You can also buy a waterproof bag through them if you don't want to pay $800.00 for the ZUMO. I'm in the process of setting up a CB and GPS on the same mount
i have the zumo 550.... with the optional antenna i now have xm/weather/and nav traffic... the cool thing is i only need one set up to work in both truck and scoot.. and i lost all of the xm junk in my fairing... anyone need hard wire xm hook up for a sony?
I use a $200 Magellan RoadMate 2200T and a $15 mount from EBay. If it rains I carry a ziplock to cover it with. A tough unit and it works well on the SG.
