Default Nav Discs

Anyone ever tried to make back up copies of their Nav Discs? Didn't realize when I ordered that option that I would have to leave the disc in the player.

All of my Garmin CD's have been backed-up and the way I installed 'em, the CD doesn't have to remain in my laptop to view the maps/files

I am talking about the Harley Factory system. You have to leave the disc in for most locations and I really do not want to do that to my only copy. When I went to copy the disc, one of the files is read only.Any suggestions? Anyone?

Same problem here on both counts...can't make backups and have to put it into the player each time I plan a route. Then if I venture too far off the route, it can't recalculate and asks for the disk if I've taken it out. I've been told that some people don't need to do this. Their unit uploads all the maps on that particular disk and they don't need it again. I've tried reinstalling, tried installing a different region and then going back to my region, but no luck. I wouldn't pay for this upgrade, but it came standard on my bike. Anyone thinking about it, do yourself a favor and just get a Garmin.

The discs are more than likely copy protected just like a DVD movie. You might check with customer service, they might be willing to provide you a second CD just for cost of the media and shipping as long as you can prove you've purchased the original. There is software out there that will allow you to copy a protected CD or DVD, but probably not worth the cost and not really legal, I think the first option might be easier and less expensive.

Just got my copies to work. Disc copy did not but I was able to back it up on my hard drive and then take it from my hard drive to a cheap CD_R. No worries now keeping one of these with me at all the times.
