Just trying to give you a feel for how I feel on the bike. The fall was totally my fault...I have no illusions it wasn't.
I'm so ticked about the tour pak right now...but the guy was trying to be nice, so I can't fault him. Hubby did a great job at repairing it for now.... you would have to look to see the spot. Figure it will take a couple of months to get a new one. I'll either keep this one and have it repaired or list it on ebay for a couple of bucks...you never know.
Gonna get to go tryout my backrest now...going fora 150 mile ride to finish my 500 mile break-in (and to see a visiting niece at the mom-in-laws). After looking at the hookup I'm wondering about my plans for a solo seat[:@] I have a a lot to learn about these bikes.
Sorry to hear about your drop Bluerose. I know how ticked you were when it happened. I had about 150 miles on my SG and decided to try a difficult turn up a driveway and quick turn into our parking area on an off camber hill....and you guessed it...I wasn't going to make the turn, so I stopped...the only problem was when I stopped I was off camber...went to put my foot down and ran outta leg....and she did a slow drop. Unfortunately I got a scratch on the fairing right outside theleftmirror. I haven't fixed it yet...but one of these days I will. Luckily...it's not that noticeable.I now have 11,000 miles on her and have become more aware of the weight and where I am when I stop...asI'm only 5'4".I know your drop was different...getting used to the brakes...but as you know,dropping these bikesdoes happen for a multitude of reasons. Glad you weren't hurt and as the others have said...the bike can be fixed.

This is my first time on this website and I have only been on line for about ten minutes and already I'm going to stick my two cents into this conversation.
1-We all drop our bike sooner or later. Just be thankful you did not get hurt and be thankful the first oopsis out of the way now.
2-This is why we have insurance. Just call your insurance adjuster and explain what happened. Let them tell you tocall the HD dealer andorder a whole new tour pack. You will pay thedeductable and be done with it.
3-Don't do that again!
Well Decided to call the insurance company...figure it's new, the crash bar and bag bar will also be replaced along with the bag, and all of it installed buy the dealer. Just going to let it happen.
My only caution is to pick the right dealer for the repairs. A buddy of mine layed his bike down and scraped up the front fender, crach bars, right saddle bags, etc. His insurance company took it to the HD dealer that was the low bidder and they kept the bike for over eight months and kept nickel and diming the insurance company to death. The original estimate was for like $7,600 and by the time it was done they paid $14,000. If they wrote an estimate like that up front the bike would have been totaled. Great for my friend because he would have been riding with a new bike in a week or two. But less profit for the dealer. In stead my buddy was bikeless for aover eight months.
I would let them do the estimate and order the parts only if they let you ride the bike until ALL the parts are in stock. The dealers like to low ball the estimate to get the work from the insurance claim and then hold the bike hostage until the entire claim is settled. Some of these dealerswill order some parts up front and then keep findings additional pieces that need to be replaced when ever the shop gets slow.
Just be careful.
