I've dropped a bike twice like that lesson learned glad it wasn't the Ultra (Heritage) both times outa a parking lot slight incline going forward with front wheel turned hitting front brake will drop you like a rock every time the momentum alone will drive you into the ground.

I dropped the Ultra once when it was two weeks old pushing it under the back porch when it started to rain my ankle gave way putting it on the stand thought I broke it but just a sprain the old bones are not what they used to be, glad my son was there to help right it but I really felt bad my baby went down but escaped with just a few scratches on the front lower.[:@]

If the repair holds, great, if not try welding. Either way after the repair find yourself a good painter/artist and have your trademark, Bluerose painted over the damage, maybe the hairline crack could be incorporated into the stem of the rose. Just a thought.

First confirm that the bags are ABS. I have heard that they are actually something called "GTX Nylon" or similar. At any rate if they are ABS, fiberglass will not stick to them forever. When it comes off, the best and easiest way to fix ABS cracks is with MEK goo. I have an Apache camper that is ABS. Apache owners become skilled ABS crack fixers. To fix a crack, you need to get you some ABS. I buy it in pellets that match my camper. Mix the pellets 50/50 with MEK, a thinner. The pellets will melt into a goo. Wipe the crack with some MEK to soften it. Be careful MEK will quickly melt the ABS. Then, brush the goo over the crack. Let it dry and recoat several times. The goo dries quickly. After it has completely dried a day or so, you can sand and paint it. If done properly, the crack will be as strong or stronger than the original piece.

Do a Google search and you will see the material used on bikes call GTX Nylon...whatever that is...

Hey,it is an accident. If your deductable is too high or you dont want to claim it just buy a new tour pak. With great respect to all who offered repair techniques, believe me it will show. It is a new bike. AN ULTRA! Dont cheapen it my doing a make shift repair.

Could have been worse! I would check EBAY occasionally they have a tourpak for sale, I have seen them from $200-400. You may have to have it painted, but your dealer can likely help with color matched PPG paints. May only end up spending $500-600 versus a grand.....this way you are halfway towards your exhaust and stage I.

At least you were there to witness the fall.....about a year ago I was working out of town and Wifey called...UGH! She told me she just heard a loud crash in the garage and that upon her inspection my bike was laying on its side. We had just moved to Minnesota and knew no neighbors to help her right the thing.

She lay there like a slug for three days until I could get home and pick er up. You want to talk about sleepless nights.....for three days I had a hard time eating and sleeping. I lost focus of all things around me, became distant, distracted and irritable. You think I have an attachment issue? Glad you're okay.

Bluerose, have you checked to see ifinsurance will cover the repair or replacement of your Tour-Pak? I'm just wondering....thought you probably have already checked.

Yes my insurance will cover the pak but no reason to raise my insurance costs for under $1000 in damage -- My deductible is $500. First I'm going to go get the part number, then I'll probably order through Chicago Harley for the extra 20%....

I'm sure it will take a while to get here. The Fiberglass should hold until I get the piece. Right now its solid...

Yesterday was just a bad day. I seem to be missing a set of keys to the bike too, I'm sure they are here somewhere[:@]

Ride it like your husband fixed it. Spend the money on a set of quick detachable hardware and just take the tourpak off. This will allow you to spend some time on the bike and become a bit more familiar with this beast without the added weight of the tourpak. Then when you have become accustom to the ergonomics of the bike, put it back on and the expense you would have incurred from wanting to go quick detachable will already be behind you.

If it were me, I'd take the tourpak off, do the stage1 like you want, ride it and become familiar with "her" and then progress. My $.02 anyways as my tourpak stays off more than it stays on.

Whatever you do, leave the side rails on that protect the saddlebags. Those are not an option to ride around without if you repeat this aforementioned scenario. Glad you're ok Bev.

You can order the bottom only; I am in the process of this right now on my 07. Problem is with special colors other than vivid black can take many weeks. Good thing is you are okay and the hubby fixed it temporarily.

UltraKa$$ic your funny

Actually, I'm mostly having problems getting used to the brakes and I'm just a bit thrown by the height. Idon't feel top heavy at all, in fact I barely feel it when my daughter is up there...I used to ride with a tour pak all the time (I rarely removed it from the Deluxe).

It did not fall over due to weight or the tour pak...I hit the brakes wrong and at that angle physics/gravitytook over. The same thing would have happened on the Deluxe. The bike went down really slow there is no ohter unexpected damage. The tour pak damage is from a guy trying to be a good sumeritan...It was accidental.

At any rate I do have the detachable kit just haven't had time to put it on. I only have 300 miles on her....so I'm still breaking her and me in....no plans on removing the rails anytime soon [8D] As far as the ergonomics I all ready know of some changes I need to make....between waiting for '08 Harley parts and the $$ it will just be a bit.
