05 RG and an 07 FLST. Love 'emboth. A good deal on an '05 hell yeah. '07 leftover that they're dealing on hell yeah. '08 if you can afford it hellyeah. 07 and 08 need race tuner and SE 204 cams to realize full potential and reduce heat,IMHO.

Go with the 08, its allways less exspensive in the long run... Good Luck!
Hmmm, how exactly do you figure that?
Pay more up front, lose more if you sell.

I'd be mighty tempted by the improvements of the '08 (mainly ABS and 6 gallon tank), but in my case, I decided no more payments on anything. If I can buy it outright, ok. If not, I wait. I bought my '00 FLHT in '04 with 7000 miles on it, 95'd it and never regretted not buying new (and saving 6 or 7 grand).
There have been some ridiculously good prices on really low mile bikes floating around lately...a deal like ottosails' would be pretty darn nice.

It's pretty hard to beat a bike that's paid for. Yes I would like a new one but if I'm not making payments I have extra money to get out and enjoy the one I have (at least I should have extra money???). You have to do what's best for you, either way you'll have a great time on a great bike.

Every year when the new bikes come out I go and look at the Road Glides. Still haven't seen anything worth while to make me get rid of my 01. As was posted above a good deal on a couple of year old bike will leave you some pennies to put into the bike. 99-01 bikes are in need of a compensating sprocket change as they are geared real low. These areprime candidates for 6 speeds.Ahhh you don't want a Road Glide.

Go for the '08. I went from a SEII Sportster Roadster to a SE I Road King Classic to an '08 Road Glide. What a bike! The area where I live and ride (Las Vegas) is wide open for all the 70 to 85 mph riding one wants. IMHO, the six gal. tank, the 96 cu. in. and the 6 speed were made for the Western US roads. I took the RKC to upstate Michigan last summer and while riding the non-freeway roadshardly ever got out of 4th. If I lived in a place like that year around, the bigger engine and the six speed wouldn't get much use. The stock RG's available torque to the rear wheel is greater than either of the previous bikes. My RG pulls smoothly in 5th from 50 mph. It accelerates smoothly in 6th from 55 mph. There is minimal gear noise in any gear. The fixed-in-place fairing does help for a comfortable ride in stiff cross winds and truck turbulences. I am aRG fan.

For the record, I have found that theRG has more air coming up from underneath the fairing than dideither previous bike's windshields. I will probably go for the lower fairing pieces soon. I am going to install the Klock Work's flared windshield first and see how much that cuts down the across-body wind. ............... BC

I went from a '04 Wide Glide to a '06 Road King to a '07 Road Glide. Loved my Wide Glide, it was my first Harley after over a dozen Japanese bikes over 30 years. Put about 12K on it, including my first riding vacation - 4300 miles in 17 days. Rode a buddy's Road King and had to have one, so I got the '06 andput about 8kon it. Never really felt like it fit me. Bought my wife a '07 Deluxe, and we were both surprised at the 96/6 combo. Father-in-law got an '07 Road King, and again I was surprised by the difference. Set up with the dealer to test ride a '07 Street Glide. When I arrived, he had it gassed and parked at the front door. As soon as I sat my 6'4" self down on it, I knew it wasn't for me - so I saved the dealer the time and miles. I asked him about a Road Glide (which he rarely had on the floor) and he said he had a couple in back waiting to be prepped. He took me back to sit on one, and it was like putting on a well-tailored suit. I told the dealer I wanted one in Cobalt, and he went to check his order sheet. Had one shipping from the factory that week! I took that as a sign, and made a deal on the spot.

Twenty miles? Nope. About 1/100th of that. I admit - my heart wanted a more classic-looking Harley, and just about any but a V-rod would be more classic looking. But I decided to buy this Harley to ride, not to look at. Absolutely no regrets. I moved my Ptyhon slip-ons over from the Road King, as the dealer needed to return it to stock and gave them back for free. Added a SE air cleaner and a DFO, a Corbin seat, hiway pegs, Hog Tunes speakers, taller windshield, and a detachable rack/backrest. Later added a detachable King tourpack. Rodeit 10,000 miles in the 1st 12 months before my wife bought me Rinehart True Duals for Christmas - woke up the top end a bunch!

Yes - it's worth it to get the 96 and 6 speed, the SE air cleaner, the DFO, and the Reinharts. The smoothness of this setup, the power and the great sound are superb. My wife's Deluxe has a short windshield, saddlebags, a SE A/C, DFO, and Longshots. Between me and the bike, I'm at least 250 lbs more rolling than she is. When I had the Python slipons on it, we were very close at top speed, right around 100. Now with the Reinharts (the ONLY change) I'm at 100 wide open in 4th. I've been over 110 indicated, and was still pulling hard and accelerating. Even better is how it runs for nornal riding - smooth, quiet when I want it to be, and no more popping on decel. Runs cooler, too.

The Road Glide shares the touring platform with the rest of the family. It handles the curves very well, has the air- adjustable rear shocks (just go ahead and buy the $40 HD pump - it's worth it) and has the twin disc brakes up front. As much as I liked my Wide Glide, the Road Glide is just a much better design. Ride it all day, freeway or back roads, and not be beat up at the end of the day.

Maybe you can find a deal on a '07. If not, get an '08. IT'S WORTH IT. At least it was to me. My dealerhas sold us 5 new Harleys in 3 years, but we finally got the right ones. We'll be on these until HD gets the bugs out of water-cooled baggers, at the very least.Go get a test ride on a 96/6 and find out for yourself.
