Another stereo question post
Well I am so lucky. I got an email here in Iraq that my SG with ABS and cruise is in. I will pick it up on my mid-tour vacation in less than 4 weeks.
My stereo questions are:
What is the best head unit I should go with? I want to get the Zumo 550 for navigation andHogtunes speakers in the upper and lower fairings. I thought I should get a good high power head unit with and external output so I can add a subwoofer and amp in the back bags later. Also one that may have Bluetooth so the Zumo could "talk" thru it and inputs for Ipod or Sirius receiver.
Next is which of these head units can be controlled by the Harley handle bar controls? What adapters would I need and where to get them?
I checked other posts but info is all over the place. I am so stoked to get home; even more than before.

Hey Todd
I think on behalf of everybody who is on this forum, I can say, we anxious to get you home too!
I didnt realize you were looking for a new radio as well--this changes everything for the better. Biketronics has the kit I suggest to put a Sony in the dash and have the handlebar controls operate the radio. Theirs is the only kit that keeps the Auto Volume Control intact--and they are good people.
You could get a decent 4 channel amp and put it in the side bag--have 2 of the channels run the fronts, and the rear 2 channels run the 6x9's in the rear bag. I do get concerned with the amount of current you will be pulling from the electrical system of the bike--but we can go over that by email ifyou want.
As for a sub--I can help you do that but anything over 15mph, and you may as well shut it off--soon as you get going, low bass is the first thing to go from your hearing. I still have several models of home theater subwoofers I helpeddesign being sold around North America, and was pretty fair at doing high end-high power subwoofer design for car audio applications--if there was a way to put a sub on a bike, and make it work at speed--I would already have it! If you end up with the 6x9's in the bags--I would suggest putting a half inch ( or thicker ) "shim" between the speaker and the fiberglass mounting surface--the speaker would be "back mounted" inside the bag----this will help bass a WHOLE lot.
Anyways--drop me an email if you wanna yak--and stay safe over there!--PEZ

Pez, thanks and I hope to give you a call sometime soon. The mounting in the bags should not be any problems...my father is a Engineer and building an airplane. He can do anything with fiberglass. Would totally strenghten the box and build it airtight, bad thing for storage.
I bought my VROD thru Military Sales out of Korea in 2003. Back then they would give you the alarm and 5 year warranty. Now you only get 3 yrand the alarm. I took one of the Iraq sales sheets on a couple bikes and faxed them to my local dealer in the states. They said they will match it with frieght and before TTL which you would have to pay anyway. The price is the same but now the local dealer gives me 20% off parts due to the local sale.

We appreciate all you are doing for our country and other countries, you are always in our hearts and prayers. Stay safe and come home soon, tell all the guys and gals how much we appreciate their efforts and sacrifices.
