I had a detonation (pinging) on my 03 RKC. It got really bad on a Left Coast trip where they only had 92 octane fuel. Tried fuel additive, made no difference. Added to much and fouled plugs. Changed plugs to irridium fine wire, and then checked compression. The 10:5 / 1 comp ratio turned out to be 11.25/1. Changed to wiesco 10.5's with .060 head gasket. Still detonation. Put stock plugs back and all was fine. The ECU anti knock will not work with the fine wire plugs. Also learned that with the fuel we now have it is of little benefit to go over 9.5/1 on the CR. My RKC has not "pinged" since I lowered the CR and installed proper plugs.I have the LCD and PCIII on it and have played with the AFR and mixture w/o any ping.
EGC k&N air filter, power commander.wild pigs SO. When I am in 4 or 5 on I roll the throttle fast I get this funny noise pinging? Just a funny noise any guesses what the problem is and the fix also alittle decel popping I have checked exhaust is this all one problem or 2 different ones? bob
You don't mention what year of bike. If it's and 07 HD has issued a TSB on this and there is a download that your dealer will do at no charge to help this problem.
I heard some pinging yesterday, after a fill up at a Shell station, have never heard before, always had a decel pop, stage onewith just a dealer download, bike has always run great,I wonder if they are playing with the gas
Ah yes, but lots of us with T-Max also have a ping under load. I'm playing with my rear cyclinder timing and ACCEL FUEL settings to correct it right now.
